Dealing with Equifax has been somewhat annoying. During my disputes, I decided to do a combination of mail, fax, and phone calls. I thought Equifax being the only one to still have fax would make things simpler. Every time I call them they act like they didn't get the things I mailed and faxed in. It helped a little, but they still give me problems

I recently looked at my credit report and I have a chargeoff on the report from Nordstrom. I checked to see if I could find any inaccuracies or any information I can use to prove that the account needs to be removed. I seen that on my Transunion and Equifax report that the date of last payment on both bureaus were two different dates. I sent a dispute to both agency through the CFPB and cited laws in the dispute about inaccuracies being reported on someone's credit report. Transunion responded and said they are working on my dispute. Equifax sent a letter stating that the proof of identity I provided doesn't match the info on my credit file. I didn't upload any identification outside of giving my social and date of birth along with my name and address with the CFPB. Transunion has my info and is taking care of it but Equifax is asking for this information they should already have. I have disputed things in the past and never run into this problem. What should I do at this point? Is the burden of proof on them? Should I decline to provide proof and let them figure it out or should I just send in the things they want?

Account will not get removed, error will be corrected to properly reflect last pay date.

Once it updates, you might experience scoring loss if this charge off isn't updating regularly.

It's up to the lender to provide factual data, so no, "burden of proof" isn't on EQ, they do however has to conduct "reasonable investigation" which is nothing but two computers talking to each other, there is no fact finding mission.

Did you clear up excess personal information first? Did you add an FTC Identity Theft Report to your CFPB complaint? That's how I got mine removed.

I did not dispute them. I simply asked the 3 agencies to investigate them. I also froze all 3 and all the secondary agencies. TransUnion deleted it. The other two verified it. I then sent a follow-up letter saying " it was verified, but your information doesn't match that the other agency has. Also, I reached out to the creditor, and they were not able to confirm this either." Of course, I'm paraphrasing that. Like I said I cleaned up all my personal information first, but I also included a copy of my ID and SSN card on the letters I sent in. I also did an FTC Identity theft report. I attached it to those letters and my CFPB complaint. I will admit Equifax was the hardest to deal with of the 3. Half the time they acted like they weren't getting the stuff I sent it
