Would this be valid for Convergent to do a PFD if I make payment with them?

If Sprint has indeed sold the debt then I would think the Sprint TL should have a balance of 0 and yes, you would need to then deal with the new owner of the debt, Convergent. But I would try one or two more phone calls to Sprint to verify the debt has indeed been sold - I've seen a few threads where one was told it had been sold but it had not actually been. If sold a PFD would be a valid route. I've seen threads here for both success and not for a PFD with them.

I was more wondering if Sprint saying they would remove it from my credit report would be enough in writing for Convergent to do so, since I've seen how hesitant Convergent is to PFD on their own.

It's always worth a shot. Once Sprint is off your reports you could make a sweet call to them to ask if they could possibly do the same; ask if they could do the same as the original creditor. If no, then GWs (plural) would be in order. Worse that can happen is they say "no" but it's worth a shot. Again, I've seen both successes and failures with them.
