Rebuilding using NFCU, my SL wasn't what I expected...

This is my first post so forgive me in advance

I started with Navy Fed January 2023 and opened a checking and savings account and set majority of my paycheck to direct deposit to Navy Fed. My Fico's were under 600. Started a pledge loan April 1st for $1000 set for 6 month; paid 80% of it off April 5th.

Received an email offer April 18th for the cashRewards card. I wasn't expecting a SL over $1000 and was going to be content with even a $500 SL for my first credit card with NF. Also, considering the highest CL on any of my cards at this time was $1.1k, I just really wanted to get an unsecured card with NF.

So I applied...and got instantly approved with $11k SL!

I literally fell out of my chair when I saw this LOL.

This month I set up a Special EasyStart certificate and a SaveFirst certificate in hopes to help along my internal credit score with NF.

Marked my calendar for 95/3 when I'll be able to request for the initial CLI-but not before applying for a second card like everyone says

DCU is where the rest of my direct deposit goes, waiting on my offer buttons to flip yellow

Waiting on my Fico's and reports to update with my new CC and balances of my other cards since I did BTs onto the new NF CC. Which will bring my overall utilization down considerably and the NF CC still until 9% after BTs.

No doubt. I can't say enough about how they treated me during a very low point in my life. I was 4 months post DC and recieved a 30k car loan @ 2.9 %. And while my SL for my Visa Rwds was low, it grew very fast and having any non-secured CC post DC was huge win!

You're in a good place and it should only get better for you. Congrats again !

I too was on a long credit journey. The knowledge and support of the people on this forum helped me more than I can ever say, and now my credit is strong (and I monitor it obsessively LOL). I still pop into the forum to scan new topics, literally learning something new every day.

Just keep doing what you are doing! Slow and steady --- everyone on here always says it's a marathon, not a sprint, and they are right. You will get there --- and what a great start with NFCU! It is a fabulous resource.

Would you believe a 20k SL with 600 FICO score?!

That's what the wife was approved for with the MoreRewards Amex with Navy the other night!

I was in deep debate about waiting for an offer letter to apply for her (like i did) but after getting my cousin to apply for an Apple card and be approved with 6k SL with no HP, she was eager to pull the trigger with her first CC with Navy Fed.

BAM $20k SL!

We're still reeling! Also, just waiting on 1 more statement until I get to app for my 2nd CC and CLI

Some DP's:

Her account with NF was opened March 30th with direct deposit

Pledge loan opened ($1000) April 1st and paid 80% off April 5th.

2 additional Certificate accounts opened 5/10 and 5/12 (we're joint owners)

The Baddies:

Charge off-Chase 8k

Charge off- WF 3.5k

*Both will fall off mid 2025

Side note: I applied for the Apple Card too because I'm impatient

Approved 1k SL. FInally got my foot in the door with Apple lol.

Side note side note: I have also sought for member at other CU's such as PenFed (open), BCU (pending since I froze EX and TU when I applied for membership), SFDCU (pending). Hoping DCU gives me something good for the July quarterly.

If anyone has any wisdom of smart next moves to make next, please enlighten me!

Once I get my 2nd CC with NF, it looks like the garden for me until November when 3 of my EX inquiries drop off.

Hi! No I didn't use the prequalifying tool for any of the cards before apply. Receiving the invite email to apply was enough for me to give it a shot lol.
