Hello All,

Rent Recovery placed a collection on my credit report in Novemberof 2023 from a previous apartment.I was never made aware of a bill from the apartment complex or the collection agency. I contacted the apartment complex and determined that they had been sending the bill to the wrong address. I asked the original creditor why didn't I receive proper notification of a bill. After researching why I wasn't aware of a bill, they determined the address was incorrect and the amount was incorrect as well. The amount placed on my credit was 1400.00 and the actually amount was 429.00. I paid the original creditor and the item was supposed to be removed from my credit. Well three months later the item is still on my credit. I sent a validation letter to the collection agency and a dispute letter to all three credit bureaus. Collection agency sent a letter back to me stating that the item was settled. I have a zero balance. I have never talked to anyone from the collection agency nor has anyone properly notified me. What should I do to get this item off my credit report? TIA

I am trying to purchase a house.

So assuming that the OC recalled the debt back from the collection agency then I'd expect it to be removed eventually, since you also paid the OC directly. Did they give you anything in writing that it would be removed ? If you haven't reached out to the OC since then I'd check in with them to see what they can tell you.

There's an email to the collection agency asking them to remove the derogatory information. The collection agency has yet to remove anything. The email was sent to the collection agency and I was CCed on that email from the original creditor.
