Paid off a $6000 USAA Amex card!

Hello.

About 4 years ago I maxed out this card and destroyed my credit due to depression-fueled gambling and spending addictions. Many accounts were charged off or went into collections. In 2019 I obtained a payee through the VA who was able to pay the card off in full this month! I called USAA this morning and they're going to send me the card back with the same limit. I already set up autopay with my newly reopened Bank of America basic checking account. My $5300 monthly disability checks still go directly to my payee who pays the rest of my bills and issues me a $20/day spending allowance. I'm not working and I turn 63 in two weeks. My exp fico is 551. Later this year I hope to start playing music professionally or work part time if my health allows. In the meantime I look forward to doing some traveling to celebrate my 30 years of abstinence from booze and street drugs. Gambling? My addiction to slots has abated but I still throw a few pennies away from time to time. I'm single and have no family. I live in a veterans village run by the VFW near Gainsville Florida. I've run and gambled my life away but maybe, hopefully I've learned a lesson or two. Thanks to my payee and my good fortune to have restricted my access to cash while living here , I'm starting to make financial progress late in life.

Better late than never! You'll still have a lot of life in front of you to enjoy while being financially healthy. I'm 46 years old and have gone through a divorce and custody battles in family court, 6 figures worth of debt in 2018, I will finally cross the finish line to being debt free this year.

Then, I will enter into debt again with a mortgage. Lol
