(Not sure if this is the right place for this - Mods feel free to move if needed).

Post BK7 I obtained two cards with annual fees. Credit One and Avant. I plan to close both at the end of the year as I have other cards now with no fees and the rebuild is going well. I was wondering if anyone else has closed cards with these two banks and how it went? I've seen some horror stories on Reddit about Credit One (especially) so I'm planning on doing it three months before the year is up. Do they give you the run around, hassle, etc? Or were they easy to close?

When I closed my Credit One Amex and Avant Visa, both were completely pleasant and painless short phone conversations.
Both were no AF cards though, so no potential for the horrors I've seen others talk about.
Of the 7 cards I closed last year, only the agent for Mercury gave me any pushback about it.

I closed my Credit One cards about two months ago and it was a simple, pleasant experience. Yes, they may try to offer you different things to keep you, such as crediting annual fee, increasing credit limit, etc. I just thanked them politely for the offer and restated my intent to cancel. They did, they were kind and professional, and there have been no other issues.

I've had cards and closed them with both companies. Aside from their initial customer retention efforts to get you to change your mind, I had no problems closing my accounts with either. Just make sure you are at a zero balance when closing and monitor your accounts for any fees or charges after you close them (this is general advise for any account you close, not just the 2 you mentioned).
