Citizens Bank collections department cannot request charge off deletion???

I am rebuilding/reestablishing my credit and have a paid chargoff for an auto loan from RBS Citizens. It was paid in full 5 years ago (early 2020) and won't naturally drop off my CR for another couple of years. I just spoke with someone from the collections department and asked if I could sweet talk her into requesting a deletion from the 3 reporting agencies. She told me they cannot do that and I would have to file a dispute to get any action... the problem is I have no basis to dispute.... and they told me they would delete it after i paid it off (not in writing).

I guess i am asking if i should call back until i get a person that will help me or am i SOL?

Disputing accurate information has more often than not led to unintended negative consequences. To me anyway, your only shot at getting it removed would be through a goodwill deletion. That would require you getting in touch with the right person, which may not be available to the general public by phone, but rather executive offices you can mail a letter to. Entry level CSRs aren't going to have that authority. I'm not saying it's impossible, but very highly unlikely... and if you decide to embark on such an endeavor, be prepared to make numerous attempts.

I don't know what the chances are for goodwill from that particular lender, but I can say that goodwill is rarely achieved by making a single call to a CSR. You have to keep trying and target your efforts.

Search "goodwill saturation" on these boards to read up techniques others have used successfully.

@TenaciousRebuilder What is the date of first delinquency on the account per the credit report? It is from that it should fall off the credit report.

Pay for delete is for collection agencies not in house bank collections
