Goodwill / Late Removal for CFNA (Firestone)

Hi, Has any one had recent luck with CFNA removing a late on their credit report?

I had a 30-day appear on my report over the weekend, so I called them to make a payment to get caught up. I explained the situation and asked if the late could be removed as a measure of goodwill (I have medical stuff going on). The rep asked their supervisor who replied "they can't remove the late becuase if they got audited, they would be heavily fined." So the rep suggested I pay off the balance on the card, and it would appear on my report as "in good standing" and would "almost take my credit back to where I was".

Is any of this true? Or could anyone provide me guideance on what to do?

The part where they claim they would be heavily fined if they removed the reported late is absolutely false, perhaps they just didn't know any better. Lenders aren't required to report at all, but if they do it must be accurate. They can, at their discretion remove any reporting, good, or bad, that they want to, without consequences.

Unfortunately I've seen far more people be unsuccessful with getting CFNA goodwill removals than have been successful at it. That doesn't mean you should give up. If you've otherwise had a stellar payment history with them, you might consider a goodwill removal campaign by sending a politely worded letter explaining your snafu, a reasonably valid reason for being late, and a humble request for the removal of the reported late to their executive offices on a regular basis. Many times it takes numerous attempts before people are successful.

In the meantime, the initial sting of a single 30 day late can be significant, but it does lessen as the months roll on. Best of luck with your efforts.

IME, CCC's tend to get nervous, when the Util goes over 30%, even more as it goes higher.

Missed payments makes them nervous also.

If this 1 late is the only 1, then by all means, try very hard to get it removed.

As @JoeRockhead said keep trying. Call again,talking with a different person, you may see different results.

I had one late a few years ago when they updated their website and added multi - factor authentication. It was easy before to login from my phone and pay my bill without getting the MFA code from my email each time. Long story short, I complained and was never late before. I was escalated to a supervisor which reviewed my account which had always been in good standing prior to the website update. He then escalated it further and was approved by his manager to have the 30-day late removed. Note, it was not automatic, I received a letter in the mail from CFNA. I then used that letter to dispute the late payment with each credit bureau and after a month or so, it was removed.

You have to have a valid case, be persistent and have a bit of luck getting the right person that knows what and how to get it approved. Not impossible but worth a shot!
