I'll prioritize Chase cards soon then and just try to keep Fidelity below 50% UTL at the least then. (After hitting my goal of sub 29% on Capital One).

As for other negatives I do have on both of my student loans (one payed off) a 90, 120, and 150 day late from ~February-April 2025 that hit while I was in basic training but began prior to entry. The 30 and 60 day lates aren't reported at all. I attempted to dispute since the bureaus didn't report the same months but they just verified it recently, I think I'm going to try to dispute again since certain lates hit while I was in training. They were my fault and I just hadn't payed attention to payments resuming. I called to see if I could get a goodwill removal but they had been transfered to a new provider who could not correct the former late payments reported by the previous creditor.

I also have a 2019 collection that's set to fall of in ~November of this year. I attempted to dispute this but hoping they didn't have records or it would take more than 30 days but was unsuccessful.

2026 Debt Free Plan + CC Applications

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the board and figured I'd get some feedback on my gameplan for 2026. Joined the military in early 2025 with ~$27k of debt due to only my own fault. Fortunately, I've been able to utilize some military benefits to get all of my interest rates to 4-6% which has helped significantly. Initially all my cards were near maxed out but here's where I'm sitting now:

Capital One Quicksilver One: $1424/$3000 --> UTL 47.48, opened Jul 2021

Chase Freedom Flex: $3429/$5000 --> UTL 68.59%, opened Jan 2022

Chase Saphire Preffered: $4114/$6000 --> UTL 68.56%. opened May 2022

Fidelity Visa Signature: $3982/5800 --> UTL 68.65%, opened Apr 2023

NFCU CashRewards: $116/$500 --> UTL 23.23%, opened Jan 2026

Total CC Debt: ~$13k, TCU: 64.36%, with a $2k student loan and a $5k student loan that was payed off in full in late 2025.

I put ~$2000 towards paying down my debts each month currently with about $313 in monthly recurring charges and another roughly $200 or less in other spend. My current goal has been to aggressively break UTL tiers to try to increase my FICO, and also seeking CLIs on my Capital One and NFCU cards which I'll be requesting around mid-late April. I've shifted one recurring $149 payment onto the Cashrewards to show usage but nothing else and plan to pay off in full after each statement. The Quiksilver holds everything else + other spend with immediate goal of getting it sustained below 30% UTL.

I've been extremely consistant in paying down my debts, although spend creep has gotten a bit higher than I like, but regardless I see myself achieving debt free at least in terms of on CC by October or November of this year. Drags on my journey at this moment, apart from high UTL are some late payments that hit while I was in Basic Training due to auto-payments falling through, though I'm actively disputing now to try to get them removed. For my current FICO scores I'm sitting in the low 600s, but I believe much of this was due to mulitple cards being, initially, at near max UTL and even now sitting at substantial UTL.

2026 Credit Card goals:

January: NFCU Cash Rewards

April: NFCU More Rewards, CLI on CashRewards, CLI on Quicksilver (90 days since approval, since CLI denial for the latter)

July: Chase Freedom Unlimited, CLI on MoreRewards (90 days since approval)

October: World of Hyatt Chase Card, optomistic CLI again on CashRewards and Quicksilver (180 days since last)

December: IHG One Rewards Chase Card

2027: NFCU Flagship Rewards, AMEX Blue Cash Preferred, AMEX Gold, AMEX Platinum

The reason I've chosen the route is because I see myself, being in the military and lower enlisted, using a primarily cash back setup for the forseeable future. I think the CashRewards at (hopefully) 2% flat post-CLI and the MoreRewards are good daily cards that I can use, and if I routinely request CLIs with them they can become a backbone to my credit profile into the future. As for the chase cards, those are the only ones that I have an interest in and want to get before I'm locked out by the 5/24 rule, but regardless won't be used heavily even after I get them. Into 2027 I want to build out the AMEX lineup and finish off my NFCU wallet with the Flagship Rewards replacing my Cash Rewards as a 2% baseline + additional categories the MoreRewards doesn't cover. I'm also periodically checking for upgrade opportunities to PC from Quiksilver to Savor Rewards in case I want a Capital One ecosystem in the future. I'm blessed to not have to worry about any AF as lenders wave them due to my military status so many of these cards give me pure upside. Career wise, post military, I'm confident that my MOS will translate into a well paying civilian career if I choose so and thus the AF and downgrade paths aren't as high of a focus for me. PC from CSP to CSR is also a longterm goal, but not planned as I don't see myself changing from a cashback setup to a Points setup for some time.

Thoughts on this gameplan?

The most important part is

"put ~$2000 towards paying down my debts each month currently"

Scores will improve as util drops.

Good to hear that you're planning to make progress on reducing these balances, are all of your interest rates 6% or less ?

Your FICO scores will improve as your utilization drops, but also keep in mind that paying the highest interest rate cards first / snowballing is usually the best way to minimize the interest you're paying.

The NFCU CashRewards has an 18% interest since I opened it post-becoming active duty but I don't plan to carry balances on it so it won't affect me. I'm purely putting usage on it to show each statement period to push for a CLI on it (same reason I've shifted all of my other spending onto the Capital One, to push for a CLI)

Sounds like a good plan. You shouldn't have much trouble getting a CLI from NFCU, they've been known to hand them out like candy.

Cap1 can be tricky but hopefully you'll have success with them also - a $3K CL might be a bucketed card that won't be eligible for significant CLIs

Thanks for the feedback, being that I'm in the low 600s currently do you think the Hyatt card is reasonable to try to get in July? Its probably the most optomistic card that I'm trying to get this year but I'm hoping that by the time I apply I'll be around 20% TCU and at least in the mid-high 600s with my FICO. I don't really want to get other cards and lock myself out via 5/24 without getting the Unlimited, Hyatt, and IHG.

Hopefully the lates won't be an issue with your future approvals -- obviously they hit your reports after you had already opened both of your Chase cards. Keeping utilization low is all you can really do at this point since the lates / collection are still hanging around.
