VERIZON is GONE....for now.

I had a Verizon LANDLINE account that went into arrears in 2007. A credit report I pulled in 2007 said it would fall off in 2014. Well, for the past two months I have been pulling my credit reports and noticed it is gone. I now have no derogatory accounts reflecting on my credit report. I have no explanation for it. Can anyone surmise as to what happened? I never sent them any letters but I did call them two times to plead my case but each time I was shot down with "there is nothing we can do". Those calls were placed in late 2008.

Also, can it be placed back on once it's been off for the past two months??

One possibililty...is they could have SOLD your account to a collection agency. My Verizon dropped from two out of three reports, they sold it to AFNI, but it was a mistake as a paid Verizon.....Watch out for a collection notice....

Thanks! So what happens when I receive the collection notice?? Do I pay it and avoid them reporting it to the three major credit reporting bureaus or will they report it regardless if I pay or not??

DV them first...if they don't respond you kind of win...i'm not sure if paying it before it hits means automatically it won't hit...it could hit as a paid collection, which won't help your score.

I think Verizon IMHO, has all kinds of billing issues. Even IF you know you owe the debt, you should take the recommended steps. DV First...then if you think it's ture, PFD them....

ok great! I will DV them.

So it's obvious Verizon is no longer reporting my account on my credit bureau reports because they sold my account to AFNI. Thing is, Verizon has this "pay last bill" screen on their website and for the heck of it I put in my account # and old phone # and they were willing to accept a payment!! So here is what I am thinking of doing: I will wait for a response from AFNI, if they do prove the validity of the debt to my satisfaction I will pay the original creditor Verizon online. What do you guys think? My theory is, if I pay the original creditor than the collection agency really has no futher business to take on with me therefore removing their right to report derorgatory inormation on my CR's. Or am I just crazy to think that will work?

Also, once I do pay Verizon, will they RE-REPORT on my CR's that it was a derog account paid in full? Anyone know?

Not sure about the re-report of Verizon - but since they are NOT reporting, they probably won't report again! but I don't know this for a fact.... HOwever, if I were you, I would pay Verizon directly, then I would DV AFNI..haa haa haa, the debt will be paid!!

AFNI won't be able to report because the original debt will already be paid!

Verizon screws up all the time, in my opinion....

My DW was in the same situation you were. We sent PFD after PFD after PFD for 100% to Verizon, maybe about 20-30 in total. One day we checked her CR and Verizon was gone. We immediately sent a payment via check to Verizon and a letter thanking them for deletion. In the meanwhile we received a dunning letter from AFNI, probably after 45 days from the time Verizon deleted. We sent a DV to AFNI at the last possible minute and our check cleared, but with AFNI's endorsement (meaning Verizon mailed the check to AFNI). AFNI responded to the DV with a thank you for taking care of the debt with VErizon and that the case was closed within their office.

IMO, PIF ASAP, but don't use a personal check like we did. I shudder to think that AFNI has our account info.

ETA....Verizon never re-reported and AFNI never reported.

Yes, I think I will PIF today via online. My question is, when I DV AFNI, should I include a copy of my paid receipt I will print out once I process the payment online on the Verizon website? I think I should, therefore prompting AFNI to send me a letter thanking me for clearing up my debt with Verizon and closing my case.

What do you guys think?

I don't think it would hurt to send a receipt copy with the DV. I didn't, but it worked out fine.

Ok, I paid it off!! I hope it works.

When I first began my credit journey last year my EQ FICO was in the 560's and today it is 748. Woo hoo!
