topic Equifax "Date Collection Reported" Changed - any recourse? in Rebuilding Your Credit

I had an old collection from Cavalry Portfolio that I paid off in January. I waited a couple of months and filed a dispute with Equifax. Equifax came back and updated it as paid, but changed the "Date Collection Reported" to 4/08. It was originally reported back in 2005. Do I have any recourse? I'm also wondering if it's worth messing around with. I'm looking to apply for a mortgage loan in the next 30-45 days. I do have documentation (old credit reports) showing the original "Date Collection Reported." Should I just let this one be at this point or is this an easy fix with a dispute?

They are probably showing that you made the payment which will update the report. As long as the Date of First Delinquency hasnt been reaged your fine.

Don't dispute. The account is legit. However, there is other action you can take that could help.

The report date won't have any bearing on your mortgage process. The reported date is the date the CA updated their entry with the CRA. It hasn't been re-aged and it will still fall off 7 years from DOFD.

You can try two different things to get it removed. First, try a GW. Ask for some goodwill in removing this CA. A paid CA is just as harmful as an unpaid CA. If that doesn't work, then try a DV letter. You can DV a paid CA. Often they don't want to take the time or expense to validate so they will sometimes delete (not always).
