They said they would remove it - Then didn't

Is this even legal? I had a CA report to my credit AFTER I paid the bill. I did the process here up to the reply point, but got no guidance where to go from there. Anyway, after waiting months I called again to request the removal. They said they saw the notes and it certainly should and would be removed in a week - three weeks ago. I called again, they didn't understand why it wasn't removed, but assured me it would be done in a week. I'm getting concerned that I'm receiving a run around. Is it even legal for them to tell me they'd remove it, then not do so?

I filed a dispute on Equifax stating they'd remove it.

I would file a dispute with TransUnion as well - this way both TU and EQ have to investigate.

Also, maybe send a written request, CMRRR, to the CA as to what your calls to them entailed and what you were told would happen.

Request that they respond in WRITING!

Sometimes you have to stop being polite and get serious.

Not necessarily yelling in the phone.

But give them a straight foward tone.

I would demand to speak to their manager, I am sure they would then say our apologizes, we deleted it right now... wait a few days for it to show on the report.

They can report right after you pay it, just with a $0 balance. To ditto LilMirth, did you have a pay-for-not-reporting agreement in place first?

When I first spoke with them it wasn't on my credit report. I didn't even think about pay-for-not-reporting. I called before paying explaining I was disputing with the insurance company. Then I went ahead and paid it in Jun/Jul to be on the safe side hoping it wouldn't be placed on my credit. In August, it was reported with a zero balance. I've been fighting it since.
