I attempted a GW letter to JCPenney and this was the initial response:

Based on your inquiry, we have reviewed your account record and verified that we have accurately reported your account history information to the major credit reporting agencies. Since we have reported accurate information pertaining to your account, we are unable to delete or modify the status as reported. Please retain this Email for future reference. We apologize for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you.

We appreciate you as a valued cardmember and hope you will continue to enjoy shopping in JCPenney Stores, jcpenney.com and Catalog.

Just last week I sent several GW letters. The 3 that have responded so far were Wells Fargo Auto (its an open account) with lates, Franklin Collection Agency (paid collection), and Chase (old closed account with lates).

This week, Franklin Collection Agency and Chase both erased my records from all 3 CRAs and Wells Fargo sent me that letter about "we report accurate info". I figured they might help me with the late reports because I am still a paying customer, and I have paid over the amount due each month for over a year. Guess not. But, have been thinking about trying again .

Someone else I sent a letter to did something positive to my report because my credit score rose again yesterday. I'm not sure who it was since I only saw the score alert and not my updated report, but I'll post whoever it was when I find out in case that can help anyone on the forums.

I am still awaiting about 5 more responses, and will try again in about a week if I don't hear anything.

That's great Jen. I am inspired by the positive results you can achieve by simply being an advocate for yourself. I did not know before I started looking, that you could have an effect on the financial institutions just by asking for some help. That is the lesson Ive learned here......be persistent and Knowledge is Power.

The first being to express my satisfaction with J C Penney Stores, their products and services. My family and I shop at J C Penney stores more than any other retailer. The other reason is a humble request to have my account information amended with regards to the late payments occurring in November of 2009.

I have J C Penney Card and have been a loyal customer with a good record of paying my accounts on-time.(Inset your reason for the late payment.) . As soon as this mistake was realized I immediately brought my accounts current. This error has created drastic effects on my credit rating. I am committing to you that my payments to your company will be in a timely manner.

I am currently in the process of acquiring a mortgage and I am requesting you give me a second chance at a positive credit rating by revising these late payments. I sincerely hope J C Penney believes in their customers as we do in their products and services and humbly request your consideration in this matter. I appreciate your time and look forward to receiving a favorable decision from your department soon.

Sincerely,

Message Edited by llecs on 01-23-2010 09:15 PM

Hi

There is something we lose on a short term basis as I have sent numerous letters to Chase and while they have not removed any late payments, they changed the reporting status from paid to currently late 90 days!

I have a zero balance for the last 2 years on a closed account so it is not possible to be currently late on a 100% paid off line of credit. That tanked my FICO score by 9 points until I get that off again and it shows on my CR one delinquent account. That is not the first time they have done that. I have found in the past 24 months numerous lenders deliberately playing games. The best game players are Citi, Chase and FMC. That is what we are fighting against!

I have increased my scores by 98 points in one month. I have researched these forums, listened to the most sound advice, written GW letters and paid a few hundred down on cards. The beginning of 2010 has been a roller coaster ride for me with credit and fico scores but this site has given me the info I needed to get my fico scores back in order. Thanks to all that contribute.

                     Knowledge Is Power

Scuba,

It happens the other way too. I have been sending tons of GW letters out and Capital One sent one back saying "We received you letter but we have been reporting correctly....too bad so sad....." The dispute has been finalized and is over and all three CRAs had Capital One with 4-30day lates.....All 3 are now reporting Paid/Never Late for Capital One. With these lenders...you just never know. Persistance is key!
