Hi,

I did a PFD with RJM via email about 3 weeks ago. It was all handled via email, and I paid with a CC. They sent me a letter via email, and later via snail mail, confirming the debt was paid in full and would be deleted. It just dropped off TU today, dropped off EX and EQ a few days ago. I think they're getting a lot of email PFD's from this forum, and they're being really good about handling them. One warning...they updated the amount due immediately (I settled for 50%) but it took a full 3 weeks to get deleted...I got scared, because I thought they were going back on their promise, but they did exactly as promised.

GL!

Message Edited by BIRDWRITER on 02-04-2010 11:59 AM

DO NOT PAY WITH A DEBIT CARD!!!!

Go to the bank and get a certified check. As for the email, does it have their letter head as an image? Is it digitally signed by someone in their office? Does it look legit and legal?

Emails are tough proof, and can be argued later that they are not real or kosher, so I would be careful. But its up to you. Some people feel absolutely fine with emailed PFDs, but others want to see it on letterhead and such.

But def do not pay any other way than a certified check from the bank through the mail.

Even though it works for a lot of people, it is highly recommended to NOT give your credit card or debit card for payment, or checking account information. Its best to pay with certified check. Not only does it make them feel safer, but it is safer for you. The company may be up and up, but its a certain type of person that works at some of these collection agencies. You never know what tactics they may use, or where your credit and bank account information is going to go. I have heard stories lately that would make your hair curl. Just don't do it.

Birdwriter, I had a question b/c it seems like you're saying you didn't pay the full amount you owed & they still agreed to PFD is this true? I currently have a CA w/them & they recently sent me a letter in the mail offering me several options. I'm not able to pay the full lump sum amount but I can pay a lesser amount but I wasn't sure if they would still agree to delete it. Can you clarify this for me please?

Why not write a C&D letter to RJM? I would never put up with that nonsense. I have had other CAs write me similar letters, call me (I don't know how they got my number) and place hard inqs on my reports for debts as old as 97'. I seriously doubt some of those debts were even mine. I sent them ITS and C&D letters and the CAs run away fast because they knew I meant business and wasn't going to pushed around.

I sent RJM a PFD letter and found them to be very easy to work with. Within a week after they accepted my offer, it was deleted from the CRAs. I never received an e-mail though. I got an offer from them to pay it off, sent them back a PFD with just a little over half of their offer and they accepted - on the second try. The first time they said that they would accept the offer but didn't include in their agreement the delete part. I sent a second letter and they accepted. They have been the easiest for me so far to get removed.

Hi,

Yes, I did a PFD with a settlement for 50%! Backstory is that these had been on my CR for a while (three separate collections, all RJM), and they were constantly sending me different offers to pay via mail. I kept tossing them in the garbage, because I didn't have the money at the time, and I didn't feel like I owed all the money...it was related to automatic book club shipments that I cancelled and refused. Anyway, I wanted to get serious about upping my score because DH and I were looking at land, and one day I saw a post here from someone who had done a pfd via email. On the spur of the moment, I googled for an email addy, wrote one email offering to pay 50% of each collection for delete, and hit send. To my surprise, I got 3 separate responses (one for each account) accepting a few hours later. They offered something like 30 days to pay, but I wanted instant gratification, so I responded with my AmEx number.

Anyway, within a few days the amount due on all three collections dropped by 50% at all three CRA's, but they didn't fall off right away. I panicked and emailed them again, saying that I was applying for a mortgage and needed them gone. They replied that it was up to the CRA's, and could take up to 45 days to fall off, but they emailed me a letter saying the accounts had been settled in full and would be deleted. They finally disappeared earlier this week, and I got a 27 point jump from TU!!!!!!

They were so nice, I almost forgot I was dealing with a CA!
