there is a tsunami warning for the city I live in

I hope this is not a stupid question but as mentioned above there is a tsunami warning for my city and I live just feet from a river. Like 50-100 feet or so away. Should I haul butt out of there?

Not trying to be funny just a bit scared.

This should be all over the news where you live. Do what they're telling you to do, but only you know yuour exact situation.

People that don''t do anything usually end up being referred to as "the victims".

Please, find out right now what local authorities are advising...

I hope things turns out okay. You must live in Hawaii or the Pacific Coast. That certainly was a powerful Earthquake in Chile. One that will make people forget about the 7.0 one that hit China yesterday. I wonder what's to come during hurricane season. So many natural disasters and wicked weather happening at the start of this new year.

I'm hoping you're ok!!!! My sis lives on Oahu, in Kailua. I've been on the phone with her off & on all day & so far things look to be ok.

It didn't hit with the force that all were expecting, but as we all know...it's better to be safe, than sorry!!! Last report I'd heard, the waves are coming in, butno significant damage.

I hope it stays that way!

Now that I am at work and have a computer with internet I can update you. Everything is ok in my neck of the woods. I live in Washington State and nothing exciting here happened did not have to evacuate or anything. Cant help but get scared when you hear the word tsunami.

Jeez, you got me nervous yesterday morning, for sure. (I hadn't seen the news yet, so I hadn't heard anything about the tsunami, or where it was headed and when it was expected to get there...)

I had this image in my head...you were sitting at the keyboard, asking what to do, and behind you was this huge wall of water rushing towards you...it was freaky.

For the US West Coast they issued a lower category of alert than the Warning they issued for Hawaii. And I gather in Hawaii although locals noticed some peculiar oscillations between abnormally low and abnormally high water their amplitude was not enough to cause much damage. TV news footage from Hawaii shows mostly crowds standing on cliffs watching the waves. Of course folks in Hawaii remember 50 years ago they got hit pretty hard by a major tsunami.

Chile of course is having to recover from a really major earthquake, though I gather they were much better prepared for an earthquake than Haiti was (of course it helps Chile that it's got a reasonably well-functioning government and economy).

Well, it took me 3 days to find out that I had been in an earthquake, that it wasn't the washing machine that made things fall off the walls.
