Husband called me obsessed...

why do people act like it's a negative thing to be on top of your credit? Anyone else been called obsessed or addicted to their credit reports? I sure could think of a million other things that would be BAD for me to have an addiction to.

DW thinks I'm a little weird about the credit thing too. It was perhaps exacerbated by the fact that one of the first words that my son was able to read was "FICO". Seriously, I'm not making that up.

But having good credit and using it to our advantage has paid off as well, so she accepts that it's a good "vice".

Some of my friends and relatives have said the same thing, but they beg for my help when things turn very ugly for them. Its all good, I'm happy to help them when I can.

i've been labeled as such as well i don't mind, though. i know where my credit has been, & where i want it to go, so i'm going to stay on top of it no matter what anybody thinks about it

thats great! I find myself doing the same thing and my knowledge of this is still in its infancy but reading all the forums really helped. I just direct my friends to the MyFico forums. They think I am obsessed too...

I feel the same way as you two. My reports are pretty much as clean as they're going to get until first premier takes a hike so now I'm working with my twin sister to see if I can help her in any way. She shouldn't have much to fix, maybe a random old 30 day but I'll show her the beauty of goodwill. I kind of wish someone I was "close" with had issues because I'm willing to help. What I've found is that most people take the "ostrich" approach with regards to credit - bury your head in the sand and hope everythings better when you come out. I need to spread my knowledge!!!!!!

Leading up to our first home purchase, DW thought I was obsessed with myFICO. She even called myFICO my second wife. And I understood her feelings because one day I'm on the computer 10-minutes per day and when I found this site, it seemed like 10-hours per day. I took a lot of time away from her and it bothered her. In terms of finances, I had subscribed up to several CMSs and between the semi-monthly myFICO pulls, I was spending $$$$$ each month and that bugged her too.

It wasn't until we applied for the mortgage, 3 years later, this time last year, then that "ah-ha" moment kicked in for her and she understood why I was doing this. Our interaction with the lender and the home-buying process went seamlessly (relatively-speaking) and that validated the amount of time I spent reading, studying, and posting away. I have spent less time on here while I'm at home since the mortgage and cancelled all but two CMSs. Also cut back on the pulls to monthly and that's set to go quarterly at the first of the year.

lol... My wife is just glad I'm on top of it. All it took was a couple of "incedents" where I saved our collective butts from CA's and she's happy I'm on it.

It's great to know I'm in good company on the "obsessed" category. I don't look at it as "obsessed" I consider it "educated". When I bought my car last month, the finance director said "I've never met anyone as knowledgeable on credit scores before". Well obviously she has never been to these forums

I believe that when I buy my house in a couple years, all this knowledge is bound to pay off. Shoot - I suppose it already has seeing as though I went into the dealership KNOWING my credit score and was able to secure the 1.9% financing before the hard pull. I can only imagine the type of APR they would have tried to stick me with had I not known my score!!!

Yeah, I know I did better at the dealer on my last car purchase. I refused to negotiate monthly payment, kept the focus on price, and then offered them the chance to beat USAA on the financing - they did by using a local credit union.

I am newly obsessed and DH was definitely amused by the new obsession. Then when he got home last night and I showed him the first PFD agreement we got in the mail from a medical collection I think he realized all the time I've been spending on the forum is a good thing.

Hi, Casmith -yes, I get the business for being a junkie, too. Husband FINALLY saw that this was actually helping us when I scored that car for just over 5%.

My 9 yo sings "FICO FICO FICO" whenever I get on the computer.

lel - that's SOO funny that your son's first word was FICO. That kid's gonna be in the 800 club by the time he's 21!

LMAO, im already having conversations with my wife about how we're going to keep all our cards and have perfect history and when our son/daughter (no she's not pregnant yet) is of age, we're gonna make him/her an authorized user and watch as those scores shoot up.

i see im not alone.

it helps alot when your spouse at the very least is as ambitious as you, if not more ambitious in keeping fico on the positive.

i cant stand people who "dont care". im glad i keep my distance. birds of a feather......you know....
