So I was approved for the Ritz and Platinum last Saturday and just received the Platinum in the mail today.

This baby is gorgeous!!!!

Congrats on your approval! IMO the card is rather bland and unspecial looking. It would be better if it was made out of metal or had some shine to it.

+ 1. It's a very bland card for it's AF. I prefer using Zync over my Platinum.

the Ritz's looks are way better than the Amex platinum. the Plat just has the immediate recognition. everyone knows what it is.

The UK platinum has contactless (NFC?) payments, the US one doesn't which is unfortunate.

The US platinum has an invite only SMS (text messaging) concierge service.

I just gave the email one a try, when I called up Concierge they said they endevour to reply within an hour... so let's see what will happen. If it works, I would prefer email over calling as it will take less of my time and there is less of a chance for them to make a mistake due to not mishearing.

Congrats on your cards! When i first heard of the platinum and that giant AF i thought the card was metal. I recently found out its just plastic. Now the ritz is a gorgeous card and that one is metal. I wouldn't mind having both cards though.

I was very disappointed in the card presentation though. All it was was a box size envelope with some papers in it.

When I called to activate the card, I told American Express about this and they forwarded it to whatever team they have to do. The rep said that someone should contact me. We will see how they respond.

I can't justify the fee either, but personally I think the PRG looks better. As another poster mentioned, there just isn't a lot of shine on the plat. So I think they did a better job with the PRG/Gold design or at least color scheme than they did on the Plat.

Just my .02. If I spent enough and traveled enough to justify the AF on Plat, I still wouldn't be using it for expenses. I'd be using PRG. Today I learned that PRG and Plat have the same premium roadside assistance. WOO HOO! (no more paying when I lock my keys in the car again... )

Got mine a month or so ago. Did the spend, got the points, and just paid the $450 AF. Steep, but worth it, at least for a few years. May downgrade to green at some point. I like the way it looks. Pretty badass. "The Platinum". Heh.

When new, the name and account numbers are black but over time it wears out and becomes "platinum" color like the card itself
