I conclude this could be reasoning for the West Coast's innudenation of Mainland Chinese tourists buying everything possible. 1. Cheaper Prices. 2. They can buy whatever their heart desires. Far fetched, I know.

Not to sidetrack, and momma said never talk politics or religion, but Mainland China still exceeds us grossly in exports. My only gripe.

Just because one sovereign state out of the ~206 currently recognized by the U.N. chooses to score credit in this abhorrent manner, that doesn't logically make the USA inherently superior all to the other 204.

If all it takes to be the best is to find one bad actor to stand next to, anyone could be high school valedictorian just by hanging out with an all-Fs student. Or anyone could be the Republican Presidential nominee just by standing next to Harold Stassen.

Anyway, back on the main topic. For China, this isn't all that surprising, given how politicized their financial system is. The boom/bust of the stock market was driven in large part by the Communist Party urging investment to the extent that many market participants took out loans in order to invest. This is really just more of the same - the state using financial policy to achieve its own interests.

Ah. Based on this line the article author clearly comprehends neither the article they're referring to nor the Schengen visa process... and therefore they likely don't understand the actual credit rating they're talking about either (i.e., making the whole article suspect imo).

I found this an intriguing question to ponder: Is there any statistically significant correlation between political affiliation and credit rating in the US?

Well, after some poking around on the internet, I found some spurious evidence that there is.

Experian apparently did an analysis after the 2000 election that found that blue states have an average 687 FICO while red states average 671.

And CreditKarma more recently found the same pattern in 2012: blue states 667, red states 651. However, while FICO is mentioned in the article by a 3rd-party commenter, I suspect they used their own scoring and not FICO for that analysis.

It's also a pretty blunt-edged analysis since obviously not everyone in a blue state is a Democrat, or red state a Republican.

I'd be interested to see a better analysis that actually compares those officially affiliated with Dem, Rep, Green, Libertarian, etc parties to those registered as Independent. But no one has that data on hand, so it would require spending money to collect and correlate the data. This blue state/red state thing is much easier to do with existing data,,,and worth about as much as the intern's free time they spent to do it.

I wouldn't be real concerned with what China is doing as I would be with what is happening here in the U.S. The "IT giants" here are collecting more data on you than you could ever imagine. Google, Apple, Microsoft, ect....they are all doing it. Collecting mountains of information on anyone who uses the internet basically, which is everyone. EVERY SINGLE THING YOU DO. Did you know that your smartphones, by default, even track every single place you go, every second of the day? You can even look at it yourself. Look up how to do it. You can see EXACTLY where you were 3 years ago at 12:48 PM and how long you were there. Imagine what that information would be worth to say prospective employers or the government. Would you want to hire the guy searching for thermodynamics, or the guy who searches for porn 5 times a day? Mass collection of information is here, we just haven't fully realized the effects of it yet. I know it sounds conspiracy theory but...yeah...
