Amex PRG draws more attention than Platinum

Any Amex holders who have or had both the prg and platinum can agree?

maybe it's the gold that makes it stand out, but when i had the platinum I never recieved any compliments or comments on the card. I noticed with the PRG I've gotten a few " that's a decent card " ...." Love the gold!" etc. I think even for the general public who may not have knowledge in the credit card world may mistaken the PRG to be a higher rank than the platinum. Maybe people think the Amex platinum is the "silver" card under the gold lol. Who knows, but I thought it'll be an interesting topic to see what is everyone else's experiences in terms of public perception between the two cards.

I don't have either card so I can't chime in on use and benefits standpoint. As far as the perception of both cards, I think it partly depends on geographics. I live in an area where it seems everyone and their brother has the Platinum. Knowing the benefits of both cards I think they both have their "prestige" so to speak, but maybe in an area where every other person that pulls out their wallet isn't using a PRG or Platinum, I could see less-informed people thinking the PRG is a higher rank. That being said, the perception of a card when you pull it out of your wallet should not be the reason it's in your wallet in the first place. If you can get good use out of it and it fits your spending needs and it holds some kind of perceived "prestige" then I'm ok with that but it shouldn't be the main reason anyone applies for a card.

I've had an Amex platinum card before and now have the PRG and yes, the gold PRG definitely gets more attention at most places I frequent here in L.A.

+1 They really are different cards, rewards versus perk, IMHO.

I think the people that "know" will always give more attention to the Platinum. Ofcourse gold stands out more to the uninformed individual.

Has anyone else been having quality issues with their PRG? I have had to replace mine for the 4th time this year already because it keeps snapping in half horizontally right above the chip.

Mine is fine but it's in a spot where that bend wouldn't happen...

Crazy you mentioned that. Got the same problem I literally asked for a replacement earlier lol. Mine started snapping right above where the chip is at top horizontally, it started small then the cut got bigger and bigger over time.
