Metal Discover Card

Yesterday while working at my part time gig which is Best Buy. I had a gentleman come in with a Discover More card but it was metal... Never seen that before.

My discover card from a decade ago was metal, but the more recent one isn't.

CapitalOne Venture has one but it's a randomized offer -- not sure what triggers it...

Because of this post, I shot Discover a note to see if it's TRUE and how to get one. I saw the article below but Discover is not on it.

Based on a previous comment, maybe the card u saw was old/grandfathered in. Report back what u find out, I'll do the same.

After a bit of Googling I've learned that the Discover More card was discontinued in 2013 and replaced by the Discover It.

I know this post is a few months old, but I stumbled across it. I have a metal Discover more card (can post pics if needed.) I have been a member since 2012, and recieved a letter in the mail one day with the offer. I was even worried once when I lost it and had to request a replacement card thinking they may send me a plactic one, but nope, still metal. Never really put much on the card, to feel like I did anything special to be offererd one. Worked up to a 37k limit. It's not really that heavy compared to the Amex Platinum cards I get handed at work all the time, but it is cool there doesn't seem to be many of these out there or any information online about it.

Based on Discover's business model, I wouldn't hold my breath. They've cut many card benefits and now instead of live chat, the online customer service feature is "message." Would be nice if they offered a $450/year premium travel card, but I doubt it. Still a pretty good company otherwise, however.

Discover strikes me as a pretty rational company. They don't have the hotel/airline relationships to offer serious perks, and international acceptance is limited and relies heavily on JCB and UnionPay partnerships. So why waste money on development, marketing, and bonuses when they couldn't seriously compete against Amex and Chase?

They're a consumer finance company with a credit card division. It makes more sense to run silly ads to appeal to people who just want good customer service and straightforward rewards.

They ran Premium Plus for a while (for customers with something like $40k+ spend) but I've not heard anything about that for ages.

I also have a metal Discover more card, have been with Discover for over a decade now, and never product upgraded to the IT card. Similar to another forum member, I randomly received a letter (and I think an email) asking if I would be interested in getting a metal card.

If I can find the email I'll post it up on here so others can see. I had to call in an talk to a representative to get the card approved and sent across, was a very interesting, random experience!
