How many credit cards and charge cards do you have ?

I have 2 charge cards (Sinclair Green Card and Kwik Fill Charge Card) and 70 credit cards (23 store cards).

No charge cards, but I have 12 credit cards....well 11(tomorrow I'm combining my freedom unlimited to my freedom card, I have PenFed power cash and Citi DC(sock drawer) so the freedom unlimited was not needed.) MY personal max for me is 15. But applause to those you can juggle 20+ cards. If you have a chance can you list all 70? How do you manage and keep them active?(no judgement, just curiosity). And welcome to my FICO!

Can someone please explain the difference between charge, store and retail? What's the difference between 23 store cards and/or retail cards? I've seen in post referred to but not sure if there's.

I have 8 bankcards and 2 what I call retail cards open. Is that also charge cards? What's the difference if any? Is it cards with no limit? If so, how is that referenced; charge or retail or other?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread but as I was answering I realized how often the question, for me, comes up "are my retail considered charge adn or store?".

The charge cards are personal cards and business cards. The balance must be paid in full each month, the credit limit is high, and you must have a good or excellent FICO score to get a charge card, but there are some personal charge card issued for oil companies (ex. Sinclair Green card, Kwik Fill gas card) with low credit limit and you need only a fair FICO score. The main charge cards are issued by American Express. The store credit card is a credit card issued to use in a retailer: Target, Walmart etc. The card has the retailer name. Some store cards can be used in any place, because are Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

I grew in up an era or maybe place that referred to store cards as charge cards. I think that's why I was never clear and separate my retail cards from my CC. For me, sounds like they're all CC. Thanks for the explanation.

No charge cards, no store credit cards, 18 premium credit cards Amex, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Lowest CL 6200 for Discover...Highest CL 16k, and except for the Discover all are at least 10k CL. Always PIF, and have now started only applying for 1 card per year, but might would consider 2 if something really good comes out. A few will likely soon be cancelled for non-use such as TD Bank, Barclaycard, and a non-rewards Bank of America, although I might see about closing it and moving the CL over to the other BOA rewards card. I got that card only because it offered 0% interest, and 0 fees on balance transfer for 18 months, so I moved the balance of my Goldwing to that card to save the interest. I got it at the same time as the BOA rewards card on the same credit pull. Now that all my debts are paid off except 18k on my mortgage I see no need for balance transfer offers anymore. I suspect I will soon be at 15 cards if they close the TD bank, Barclaycard and that 1 BOA. Will soon need to put a charge on the Discover, because I need to keep it open for the free fico scores.

I have 12 credit cards of which10 are personal (of which one is a store count), and 2 buisness, I have 1 charge card.

No, if it has a Amex, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover on the card, it is not a store card. It is a Co-branded conventional credit card. My Citi Costco and Chase Amazon Prime card are 2 examples. In the case of the Chase Amazon Prime, it also require much better credit profiles than the Amazon Prime store card does. The same may be true for the Costco except I am not sure Costco has a store card. Both are subject to credit approval by their respective banks Citi, and Chase. Both will have more rejections than a store card would, and reqire good to excellent credit. Store cards usually can be obtained with fair and maybe even some poor credit scores. Retailers have incentive to issue their store cards because they can only be used in their store, which means they can make a profit even with higher default rates. My point is, just having a store name on the card does not make it a store card. Synchrony and Comenity are the primary issuers of store cards, although I think Citi issued a few including Best Buy at one time. If it has a Visa emblem it can be used anywhere Visa is accepted and is not a store card. It is a major credit card that has worked out a special deal with the store that is on the card, and that agreement can, and in Costco's deal with AMEX, did get cancelled, and a new deal was obtained with Chase.

In famous credit cards websites a credit card with the name of a retailer is a store credit card still being Visa, Mastercard or American Express. I don't know currently any store card in the Discover network. There were True Value Discover card and Home & Garden Showplace Discover card, but were cancelled.
