PayPal cashback card changes?

It looks like there was a change to the acct this evening. The card is different (hopefully, we get new cards. I always hated that card). The name also appears to be different. Next to the card, it says:

My PayPal Card

PayPal Cashback World Mastercard®

ETA: I got an email from them tonight: "Your PayPal Cashback Mastercard is getting a makeover!
Soon you'll start seeing a new and refreshed look, while still receiving the same 2% cash back* that you know and love on all purchases."

I did see on the app earlier the design of the card is different. Just a slight difference tho. Didn't notice any other changes though.

If you login via desktop which would redirect to the SYNCB site, it displays a refreshed/new image of the PayPal Cashback MC. I don't believe it displays on mobile or the app.

I personally think the old card looks better.

But what I did notice is there is now a "contactless" symbol on the card. Which means they will be rolling out contactless cards. Which is nice since they don't let you add it to Apple Pay.

Isn't the World Mastercard indicative of a new tier of Mastercard related services? One blog notes

If this is that, the upgrade adds some cell phone loss coverage, various travel and shopping benefits as described in this link.

Or it may be prelude to getting one's credit limit slashed or closure of account

WMC used to mean additional benefits but issuers are starting to push them now just to get themselves more swipe fees.

WMC is a higher tier than standard so I would take it as a good sign if your card got the upgrade that you're safe from closure (as safe as one can be when it comes to Sync).

@Oops_I_Did_It_Again lol Don't play, especially when I noticed that when I open the chat window on the site, one of the links says "Decrease credit limit" lol. I could have sworn that it used to say "Increase". But, at least I still have the actual CLI link on the page. Hopefully, Saeran's right. And, yes, the additional card perks is one of the reasons that I asked.

I have this card and I called customer service today to see if I could order the new look card. The rep told me they had already began mailing them out automatically and that I should see mine in 7-10 business days.

I agree I'm not a big fan of the look, Although I won't mind it if the card has more of a glossy feel to it. Wasn't a big fan of the way the current card felt.

My BOA Americard just got upgraded to a BOA Platinum Plus, which I'm not even sure what that means....they sent me a new card to go along with the "upgrade" and the only thing different was the BOA logo on the card was a different font blue and it was Contactless.

Has anyone been notified that PayPal MC is sending out new cards? Got the email and the change on my desktop login, but no notifications a new card was on the way.

yes, i got a confusing 'nonanswer' from a chat rep this morning. the rep said that if there are any changes and a new card needs to be sent out, it's an automatic rollout, if any, and it's based on the bank's decision. uh, ok lol

I would'nt get too excited until there is confirmation as to which if any updated benefits Synchrony is choosing to extend to go along with the uplift to a World Mastercard, or even if all cards will upgraded to a World Mastercard. There are examples from both Visa (Visa Infinite - CSR) and Mastercard (World Elite MC - Citi DoubleCash, also not all DC are issued as World Elite) where perks by default assigned to the card type were not offered by the specific card.
