Metal BoA Premium Rewards Card

Thought I'd let you guys know my Dad's new PR card is metal, so I am going to request an additional card on my own account to see if it comes to me in metal as well. My current PR card in the old design is metal, so I've refrained from ordering the new design because other members have said it wasn't metal. Maybe my old one (and my Dad's new one) being metal is due to being Merrill Lynch branded, though. I'll update this post when it arrives in the mail.

I'll see what I can do. I am not sure I have a scale around, but I'll have to look. I'll at least get a photo of it and a comparison to my current metal BoA PR and the CSP.

I'll get some photos later, but it is metal. Feels like my previous PR, and similar/identical to a CSP.

Anyone else have a PR that is metal? Is it only the Merrill Lynch branded ones?

I applied for my BofA Premium Rewards Visa Signature card in March and the card I recieved is not metal. I saw someone mention in a video that they received their new card in the middle of the summer and said that it was metal? Can anyone confirm that they have a metal BofA Premium Rewards card? I did order a new card so will be able to confirm also in "7-10 business days" but I am interested to see if anyone else was aware in the mean time.

I thought I saw that too but couldn't find it when I went looking. Thanks for the response. I will update when mine comes. Mine is the standard Premium Rewards, not the Merrill-branded one. It shipped yesterday I was told so who knows how long until I get it.

My understanding was the metal versions were typically available for ML customers but maybe you can let us know once you receive the card, @Alephbet.

Mine is metal, but as mentioned up thread, it could be due to being ML branded. My dad's is metal as well (separate ML and CC accounts, but use the same wealth management advisor). Also as mentioned, it is similar to a CSP, with metal in between the plastic.

I've had 3 different versions of the PR card (all ML branded):

Original was plastic

2nd was metal after ordering a contactless replacement (it was after the darker "refreshed" design)

3rd was metal after ordering a test of the new redesign

Thanks for those specific points. I'm looking forward to mine arriving. I'm hoping it is indeed metal although I would love for it to be fully metal and not that plastic with metal in the middle but it's better than nothing and should make for a longer lasting card.

Hubby got the card and it was all plastic. I'm a ML wealth management client and mine was a sandwich of plastic outside and metal inside (came with a warning not to shred, it contained metal). Once I had his account coded with our ML relationship, they reissued and he got the sandwich too.

It feels heavier vs. Chase metal cards but not as heavy as an Amex Platinum. Quite happy with it - especially the rewards

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I'm really not familiar with Merrill Lynch at all. Does opening a brokerage account with them count enough or do you have to be working with a financial advisor at some level? Hopefully my new card will be here soon and I will find out if a non-ML branded BofA Premium Rewards card is metal now.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I received my new BofA Premium Rewards Visa Signature card today. I have the "standard" and not Merrill Lynch version and, indeed, the new card is metal! As others have stated about the ML version, this card feels very much like a Chase metal card with plastic on both sides and metal in the middle. It feels really nice and has a nice weight to it. The change to a metal card must have happened sometime between the middle of March 2021 and the summer of 2021. Thanks to all for your responses!

Just adding another data point: I got a standard (not Merrill version) Premium Rewards card earlier this month as well and it is indeed metal, sandwiched between plastic. Tested it with a magnet and everything!

I'll see if I can post some pictures tomorrow. I agree about the rumored "Elite" card. Supposedly it will be available to Octave members between October 18 and November 22 and then to consumer clients on November 22. If the rumors are correct, it will be much like the Premium Rewards in terms of earning rates which would be disappointing. We will have to wait and see.
