More changes coming to AMZ Prime Visa?

The card now appears to be blue (not black) on Amz and Chase websites. Starting today you can redeem points intra statement period, according to Chase website.

I bet new cards will be plastic instead of metal, and I wouldn't be surprised if they cut rewards rate to 3% from 5%, with a corresponding downgrade in Amz rewards on the standard (non-Prime) Amazon card.

Amazon cutting costs a lot, and I bet they're looking to the Chase card program for savings, too. I know they just re-upped the contract, but that doesn't mean they can't revise or that future changes weren't already baked in to the new. contract.

Disagree with the 5% to 3% as Amex has the business card at 5% along with Sync having a 5% card as well.. All kinds of contracts / lenders would be impacted and lawsuits would be flying. Also really who cares if that card is metal or plastic as meant to be used really online only. Seems like half the cards out today are metal and honestly disposing of them are a PITA as you just can't cut them up with scissors. Really is you get plastic in the future you might be the "special" ones.

I agree, jumping to the idea that they'd be cutting to 3% is a bit of a reach. Regarding the metal cards, completely agree. When half my cards are metal, you begin to wonder where the "premium feel" is. Also, my wallet is way too heavy.

Yes, the cut in rewards, while always possible, goes against the actual announcement driving this thread, where they repeat the 5% rewards.

The card is used non-online at WholeFoods, though I use mobile pay for that so the makeup of the card REALLY doesn't matter. Make it paper to cut costs!

The redesign, if you look closely, especially on some of the other pages that link to it for the card features, you can see both versions still have the "metal grain" on them, so I don' think it's different. Though I've seen reports for years of tons of people getting plastic instead of metal and nothing has said metal specifically for a while. I actually thought they switched to plastic a year ago or so, most reports at the time said they got plastic, it seemed kind of random. The new design doesn't look specifically less metal than before considering it still shows grain on it though.

I don't like the new look any less than the old look. It's always been one of the most shockingly plain looking cards for some reason. You'd think if they took the time to redesign it they would have done more than just change the background color from charcoal gray to cobalt blue and made the logo bigger and blue. It actually resembles the business card more now, maybe by accident. The Whole Foods version always looked really pretty, shame they didn't do a similar design for the Amazon flavor.

I don't see an indication they're reducing rewards, it looks like they've actually added 2 rewards (5% Chase travel bringing it closer to the core cards, and 2% local transit which is....not special but more is better than less.) Still has 10% bonus categories, It's still one of the few cards with extened warranty and purchase protection, still has the 0% 6/12mo deferred interest etc.

(I don't have the card but may/likely reapply in about a month.)

I agree, they aren't going to slash benefits but are changing the cards' aesthetics.

My partner just signed up for this card and it came in the mail on Friday. It's the same metal version I have from years ago.

I have also noticed that the Amazon (non-Prime) Visa also got a new design that is silver instead of blue.

One other observation is that the Prime version has the large chip and the non-Prime version has the small chip. Chase uses a large chip in their metal cards and a small chip in plastic cards.

@TSlop, I just requested a replacement ...I did not ask for a specific design.

So I am guessing that one might be able to request a specific design?
