I have a consolidation loan with Department of Education but not sure if that is Direct Loans but I know that they follow up everything with a letter. I originally had the student loans with sallie mae but they do not do consolidation loans so I went with the Department of Education and they do consolidate. I find them not as friendly as sallie mae was but who cares but I did get a letter on anything that I applied for. They don't do emails and if they do you always receive a letter. It could of been that you did not get a letter though so I would follow it up before I would pay anything especially if you might not owe it. I know that I carefully monitor the student loans just to make sure nothing goes wrong as I know that they can affect your credit for a long time. I would definitely try to have that validated because it might not even be yours and then they would remove that from your report. All I know is that when they paid off my sallie mae loans within 30 days my credit report went f0 0 balance owed and that the account was closed and paid satisfactorily. That is the most I can help you with but I am sure there are others on this site that can give you more information then I can. good luck.

I have tried to contact them in regards to a courtesy retraction. Has anyone had any luck with them changing the status on a late reporting?

I consolidated my student loans with ACS education in 2006, in 2008 I started to receive correspondence from Direct Loans which I over looked since my accounts were now with ACS. This action on my part have caused me a 60 day late in Dec 08, and 90 day late in Jan 09.

They are stating that I owe $400 due to a misapplied payment to my account, from another individual. Which happened after my consolidation and they sent me a rebate check for this amount in 2007, which I never received. They are going to trace this check and let me know the status.

I'm sceptical of this information being provided to me. Other than requesting this in writing what other proof can I request? How do I get validation that I owe them this amount? Am I stuck taking their word for it?

I have been working so hard at building credit and i'm miserable now that I have late payments reporting.

Any response is greatly appreciated
