Yes, that's correct, the member services representatives won't tell you, you apply, and then you find out that the 1.59% promotion they're offering requires a 790 EX score. Otherwise, the next tier is 2.5% or something.
I stopped caring to dig out my VIN when I realized their refinance offer was not going to save me money, but cost me money.
I specifically asked prior to applying and was told that there was no set floor to get the 1.59%. Needless I'm frustrated to have wasted a HP only to find this out.
Interesting that they've raised the bar that high for their top~tier rates. Wonder if others are headed that direction in the future...

I was really shocked to hear the rate. Initially I thought she said it was 719, and so I was asking if one had to be a 720 or above, and she clarified it was ninety.
I remember PenFed held firm on my denial so I ended up at DCU on an earlier 1.99 special. My wife got into PenFed's 1.99 offer, so she just now refi'd with DCU's current 1.24% offer.
I knew I was on the fringe when I applied for the PenFed auto refinance, and I might've believed a 720 or even a 740 score, but I really think the 790 is just out there as a tease.
