Title says it all, I want to soon do a custom order on an f150 l, but I want to trade in my current current truck and finance...
Do you surrender the vehicle at the time of ordering? Trade-in value is assessed at order pick-up? When do you apply for the loan? Some sort of down payment?
Never factory ordered a vehicle before not real sure what the process is. Is it just a huge money sink should I just try to find something close enough?

I don't have any specific knowledge of Ford's process but there are a number of FAQs here which might be helpful: https://www.ford.com/custom-order/
With your trade in -- unless you want to sell it now you would just keep it until you are ready to take delivery of your new truck. You'd negotiate the trade in value at this time based on its condition, mileage, etc..
You'd probably put down a small deposit at the time of the order, the exact amount will vary and depends on their process. Most lenders will give you 2 or maybe 3 months to find a car once you're approved so you'd want to time this around the expected delivery date of the new truck. Also Ford may have some captive financing offers / deals, so it's worth asking about that also.

Thanks kinda vague, I was hoping for some personal stories of how the process went and I was definitely looking to go through FMC if 1.9/60 was still available.
I pretty much have my pick of lenders so looking to get the lowest apr possible.
I currently have a 2024 F150 on order.
Do you not have to do anything until your vehicle comes in.
Once your truck is delivered to the dealer then you can trade in your current vehicle. I could be many months before your truck is delivered.
After your truck is built and shipped it ususally takes 28 days to get delivered to the dealer. During that time you can probably reach out to the dealer to lock down your trade in value and arrange financing etc.
They can't give you a trade in value now because mileage and value will change by then.
I ordered mine in October. Still no build date or VIN yet. It could be a Job 2 based on what I ordered which means a summer delivery.

I thought that was the case... and worried about my lots of extra boxes ticked as well. I bought my 2018 in 2021 because I needed it right now, and now I want what I really wanted to begin with. When I asked the deal about I kept getting really vague answers and follow up calls they promised to call me back on going unanswered or pushed to buy what they already had on the lot.
You should get better service if you go to a large high volume dealer.
Odds are you "may" get your truck faster. The more they sell the more allocations they get when Ford pulls orders. It works similar to the NFL draft.

Do you know what your priority code is? Should be between 10 and 19. 10 being the highest priority.
Tips: Stay away from dealer installed options. You can order those after you get your truck. It only slows it down
If you ordered a King Ranch or Platinum with the pro access tailgate then chances are that's a Job 2 build. Ford says pro access is late availability...usually meaning second half of 2024.
They may build a few early KR and Platinums with the regular tailgate step but you probably need a Priorty code of 10.
Browse the F150Gen14 forums. it's wealth of info.
