Should I hang on a bit?

I will start with this...  I need a car but I am not hurting now.  Right now I have a car that my wife drives and a s10 that I drive.  We have a 21month old kid and one that will be here any time now.  We mostly use the car for my wife to get around in and when we want to travel as a family.  I drive the s10 back and forth to work.  I need to at some point get out of the S10 and into a car.  I am hesitant of using the S10 as trade in because you know how dealers are...  Both vehicles are PaidInFull.  We are wanting to get me into something that got better mileage as I drive the most and we also plan on doing a bit of driving this summer to show off the new kid...

My basic information is my signature below as far as credit goes.  I would note that I have a BK7 that discharged 14 months ago.  I have ~$38k in student loans as well. and make in the upper 40k's to lower 50k's.

Should I hang in there and let my score go up a bit and let my score go up.

Who should I potentially look at for lending.  In the past I had a loan through Wells-Fargo and Bank of America.  Wells fargo turned me just a few months before we took the BK dive...  I did not have to burn anyone on the auto side of things with the BK thank goodness.

My current credit union said its best not to apply untill I reach 2 years out from the BK7 as several others have suggested in the area.  I do have an in with Navy Federal if I that could be a good option.

Re: Should I hang on a bit?

Navy might indeed be the best option here.

Couple questions for you:

Rent/mortgage payment monthly?

Total minimum monthly payments on student loans?

Aggregate minimum monthly payments on all credit cards?

Any other loans you have?

Rent/mortgage payment monthly? Right now its $1020 a month, soon we are moving and its going to be closer to $950 a month.

Total minimum monthly payments on student loans? I am on IBR right now and its at $100 (we are going to pay a bit more than that but had a rough patch for a bit.)

Aggregate minimum monthly payments on all credit cards? At this point, whatever we decide to spend...   We dont carry much of a ballance.

Any other loans you have?  We have a secured loan and the payment is $86 a month.  Its mostly to build credit but it makes much of a difference I could pay it off...

Re: Should I hang on a bit?

Also looks like you have two threads for some reason. In the future, just try not to make multiple ones.

Anyways, sorry I forgot to ask earlier, but how much car do you want / what are some models you might be looking at and new or used?

Is that high 40-low 50 income before all taxes? Or is that like take home? Wither way as long as you don't want a expensive vehicle, I think you'll be good. I recommend Navy over Cap One btw if you can access Navy.

Re: Should I hang on a bit?

Don't worry about closing one at this point, just leave it. Smiley Wink We'll hope people only talk/respond on this one so the other will be buried.

In a Nut shell, I am not completley sure what I want yet or what I need yet.  I just dont want to go on an app spree just to find out that bah I dont want that...

More than likley going to try to find a toyota that is within my price range.  I had one once and it lasted.  I need something that would fit a 6'1"  a short wife and two car seats but most of the time it will be me back and forth to work...

Re: Should I hang on a bit?

I guess it also depends on what kind of intrest rate I can get...

If I can get a lowe rate I can afford a bit more car...

Re: Should I hang on a bit?

Haha okay, so really undecided. I think if you keep it to a payment of less than $400/month you won't have any trouble. If buying at a Toyota dealer, don't forget to apply with TFS at the dealer. They are a pretty "easy" lender and <5% wouldn't shock me. To start, I think Navy Federal Credit Union would be a good first application. They tend to be BK friendly too.
