Denied Homeowners Insurance Because of BK Less than 10 Years Old

I was shopping for better homeowner's insurance to get full replacement cost and was denied insurance because my BK was back in 2001, even though I have owned my home for 3 years and have never missed a payment.

Has anyone else encountered this?

I continued to shop around and found excellent coverage but was shocked to be denied homeowners insurance because of an old BK.

Some companies sell insurance like lenders sell loans....only to premium customers.  And certain issuers have "no bk" policies.  This will not prevent you from getting a policy elsewhere, but will from that company.  Credit is used in all types of underwriter review for insurance products.

DisciplinedSpending,

That's helpful to know.  What company refused because of bk?  Where did you find good coverage w/bk?

Just puttin' syrup on something, don't make it pancakes.
