Filed for chapter 7 today

Hi ,
I am new to this forum even though I’ve been lurking for the past couple weeks . I decided not to reaffirm my mortgage and I will be surrendering my car . My lawyer did tell me to start looking for a replacement before NFCU come knocking in a couple months. I live in VA and I have children so transportation is a must . What should I do ?

Why are you surrendering your car?

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Hello, and welcome to the forums!! Glad you're here, and posting!

It would make sense then to surrender your car if that underwater. Do you have family close by that can loan you a vehicle for a few months?

If not, lots of folks in your situation have waited till DC and then have been able to obtain financing shortly afterwards. My suggestion would be to wait until DC and then find something used/ reliable in good condition you can finance with a low monthly payment for a year or two, then you can upgrade later down the road after having some savings set aside for yourself, and a small DP for a better car.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any family here . I will follow your advice. I pray that Navy Fed doesn’t ask to to lift the stay so I can be able to wait until my discharge.
