Finally filed Chp7 but new job

I filed chp 7 it was officially filed on the 1/21/2021. I am a nurse and ended up unexpectedly taking a travel contract making a substantial amount more. I would've never filed if I knew this would be an option. My lawyer says its shouldn't affect anything because I hadn't started yet and didn't know. I will not recieve my first pay check until 2/5 anyway. Trustee meeting scheduled for 2/19. Nervous and confused about what to do and don't want to committ fraud. What can I do???

Current Scores: *11-26-2018* Fico 651, Trans 667 Equifax 680

CL: Discover $6000, NFCU $1000, First Priemer $750, Wells Fargo $600, First Premier $600, AMEX $500, Care Credit $1500, VS $2250, Ulta $1900, F21 $1850, NY&C $1900, Child place $500, Jcrew $250

Listen to your lawyer. Smiley Happy  I got a promotion/new position at my company making 20% more after filing and no one questioned it except making it easier* to reaffirm on the car loan.

Edit: Spelling and adding note about reaffirmation:

*Easier in the sense that I could actually afform my car payments with the pay raise when I went before the judge.  TBH, I should have just let the car go, but whatever, it is what it is now.  Also, my process was completely delayed by Ford messing up the reaffirmation multiple times.   Anyway.  My thing is now to rant/complain about not reaffirming.

Yeah. I ended up totaling my car on the 23 and ended getting a new one so now I have that.

Re: Finally filed Chp7 but new job

Don't sweat it, when I filed last  year I asked my attorney what happens if I get a job tomorrow making 500k he said bankruptcy would still go without a problem as it's just a snapshot of time at that moment you filed anything that happens after that no worries.

Kudos to you for being a nurse during these times.

Re: Finally filed Chp7 but new job

Ask your lawyer...

During your meeting of creditors, you will most likely be asked if your income has been consistent since you filed. you could also be asked if you are still working in the same capacity.

I started a higher paying contract job 2 days after i filed. I only worked 20 hours for the first two weeks, which made my first paycheck lower. So, technically, my income at the time of the meeting was still consistent. they did not ask for new pay stub.  However, I did correct the trustee on my new work situation. Fortunately they did not press any further.

Keep to mostly Yes / No answers.  Be truthful - just dont volunteer anything you dont have to Smiley Wink
