Good evening friends,
I want to know if anyone has personal experience getting credit cards with any of these CU's within 1-2 years post chap 7 discharge. I would really like to know your experience with these or any other credit unions besides NFCU and PENFED. I have those two figured out.
Thank you!

Why not try the ones your already in with?
I have memberships with all of them. I am just looking for a personal experience on bankruptcy friendly credit card issuer's. I am trying to minimize any hard inquiries that result in a denial.

I've been a member at NASA FCU for over a year now and have been moving money in and out of accounts there fairly regularly. While I have been approved for cards at both PenFed and NFCU, NASA won't approve me for a card. I cold app'd for one once and was turned down and now I just periodically check their prequal page and nothing ever comes up. I'm guessing they must be fairly strick with people that have a BK on their report.
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it.
AustinOriginal,
I have never been able to get an approval with NASA FCU. I tried to get a Visa with UNFCU at the 5 year mark post chapter 7 bankruptcy, and I was declined. When I spoke to the underwriter, at the time my bankruptcy, number of new accounts, and number of inquiries at the time were the reasons for the decline at UNFCU. I never tried again after that because their rewards aren't worth the effort to me now. From my personal experience, NASA FCU and UNFCU are not bankruptcy friendly and have conservative in their lending practices. I'm still a member of UNFCU and keep some CD's there.
You should look at PENFED. I've been a member for 6 years or so and have 2 old Promise cards. I was just approved for $20,000 Power Rewards Visa with only a SP. Today I was approved for a PSECU Classic Visa with a $10,000 limit, and that was a TU HP.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response.
have you found any credit unions or banks that are BK friendly? (Other than NFCU and PENFED?

First Tech fcu can be bk friendly. Especially when 4 years out if you are a high wage earner. Of course each profile can vary, they have been known to be good with folks with a bk on reports. Ex puller and a secondary like lexis. Sp to join. Hp credit for credit products. High wages and a good rebuild can take you a long way there. Good luck to you.
AustinOriginal,
I have found a couple of CU's that are bankruptcy friendly.
SDFCU is bankruptcy friendly from my point of view. Anyone can you and I don't believe they are geo-fenced. I was approved for a Visa at $1,000 and it's grown to $40,000. I also have the $15,000 cash back card via a SP and pre-approval. After being a member for a year, I started getting pre-approvals every year.
Redstone FCU is bankruptcy friendly after 2 years post bankruptcy. I've a car loan with them at 1.75% which was the best rate at the time and beat NavyFederal and CapitalOne. I also have a Rural King Visa and the Redstone Signature Visa
BECU is not bankruptcy friendly at all in my opinion. The rewards are not worth the effort you will have to put in.
Local credit unions that are very bankruptcy friendly are SCSCU and Founders Federal. Both are in South Carolina and geo-fenced for membership. SCSCU was been helpful since day 1 post bankruptcy with various loans, car loans, lines of credit, and a Visa with a fixed rate that is locked at 8.99%. Founders is also bankruptcy friendly. They only asked for POI when I joined.
Personally, I think if you look around you locally that you will find small bankruptcy friendly credit unions and banks if you take the time to do your research.Since you're already a member of DCU and PSECU, you check to see if they have a pre-approval.
Also I was in your shoes years ago, and the during the first two years, my new credit inquires and pre-bankruptcy late payment history that didn't drop off my CR's held me back. Looking at your cards in your signature, you're actually in a great place credit card wise. I personally would not apply for another credit card until you hit the 2 year mark post bankruptcy. I would keep all those cards, including CreditOne cards, until you have made it past year 2 post bankruptcy.
You don't list your other loans. If you don't have an installment loan, look into getting a secured loan for $1000 for 12 month term at UNFCU, for example. Another thing you can do is find Soul Master's guide to 700 in 24 months. Just read it for reference, You may find some things in their to help you.
For a point of reference and motivation, I started my rebuild with 2 secured Visa and a secured loan. Today 11 years and a few months after I filed bankruptcy, I have over a million in unsecured credit and over $500,000 busines lines of credit. I have the people on this forum to thank for that. I learned a lot from everyone on here.

Op, my bad. I just looked at your siggy. You currently are a first tech member. Talk to them. Look at their cards should you be considering a new avenue. They can be very good to you. There was a poster in rebuilding credit. He had been banking with them a while. High wage earner and a 4 yo bk. Had a cap1 10k and a few rebuild cards. Came out with a 30k approval. He had never considered their cards. Needless to say that person was a happy camper. Good luck on your journey.
