Hi Everyone,
Looking for advice here with any Navy Federal experts. I'm 11 months since filing, 1 month since discharge on Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I applied for a Navy Federal Cash Rewards card last week and was denied. The letter said, reason: BANKRUPTCY.
I called in and talked to a customer service representative. She told me and I quote: "As long as the bankruptcy shows on my credit report, I will be denied for any Navy Federal credit card including a secured card." She advised me not to re-apply until 10 years from now when the bankruptcy has fallen off because, "every application will generate a hard pull" on my credit report.
Does anyone know if this is true? Has Navy Federal changed their policies? If not true, any advice for how to get approved? Thanks!!
As far as I know, they won't approve anything unsecured until 1 year post discharge.
If you burned them in your BK, all bets are off and you are blacklisted for life (unless you repay them and even then it's tricky.)
My BK was discharged on 6/17, got a NFCU secured card that unsecured at 11 months which was June. That same month, exaclty 1 year post BK7 I applied for a CashRewards card and was approved for $1000. In adiditon, I just got approved last month for a $4500 CLOC through them. So, I would say what ever that rep told you is incorrect unless they just changed thier rules within the last week.
