Re: PENFED is definitely NOT 2 yrs post discharge for their cards

@SinCityPaladin Sounds like an excellent plan! Nothing wrong with secured cards IMO as long as they graduate. Best of luck to you on your rebuild!

Re: PENFED is definitely NOT 2 yrs post discharge for their cards

@SinCityPaladin, after my discharge last year I opened a CapOne secured card, hated it and closed it after less than 7 weeks.  I then opened a secured card with my bank with a $5,000 credit limit, that seems to have been what opened a lot of doors for me down the road, especially once it graduated to unsecured after only six months.  Maybe I should have put that in my data points above.  Duh!  Sorry about that.

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

I hope you called to recon with them.  I was declined back in the day with them for the gold card.  Called later that day and spoke to a LO and he overturned it and started me with a $14k limit.

Apologies for this delayed response. I didn't call to recon. I did, however, send a secured message this morning asking them to recon. I received an email response a few minutes later wherein the CSR mentioned that PenFed doesn't re-review or recon applications, and that I'd need to submit a fresh application to be reconsidered.

Fast-forward about an hour (about 45 minutes ago)... a PenFed survey invitation appeared in my inbox. I completed the survey and re-requested recon. Fingers crossed that the declination will be overturned.  If I get rebuffed again, I'll call to see if I can speak with a loan officer.

Approved at just 3 months post CH7 DC for their PCR $7,500 @ 17.99.  Data points: EQ was 701 when the inquiry hit, 7 years 4 month AAoA.  PenFed was NOT IIB and I also had a savings account with them pre BK (Feb 2017).

Very nice. Congrats! I'm still waiting to see if my survey is going to reverse the decision for me. Will call for recon if nothing happens by next week. Forgot to add to my DP summary that my AAoA with EQ is 13Y 10M.

Re: PENFED is definitely NOT 2 yrs post discharge for their cards

I did reapply for the cash rewards visa but was still denied because of the account that was included in my bankruptcy from PenFed. I will see about paying that old account back since the balance was really small.

Re: PENFED is definitely NOT 2 yrs post discharge for their cards

Hello again. Just wanted to provide a quick update:

  • I received a survey from PenFed. Completed it and included a request to be reconsidered in one of the open-ended field. Never heard back from them.
  • Fast-forward to this past weekend. Applied for their Platinum Visa Siggy. Immediately received conditional approval. They wanted to verify my self-employment income. Upload my tax return. Was declined for the card I app'd but was given a counter offer for their non-Siggy PCR. I accepted. Limit of $2.5K (it's a start!). Equifax 724 specified in the counter offer letter. 13 months post-DC.

Not for me.  I was 14 months post Ch7 discharge and I got the Power  visa with 12 months zero interest on all balance transfers and a SL of $6,500.

Re: PENFED is definitely 2 yrs post discharge for their cards

I just got my 3rd card with PenFed since my BK. Two of them were less then one year after discharge and the 3rd at less than a year and a half. 20k in limits. PenFed has been amazing with my bk.
