Repaying American Express after Chapter 7

I’ve been browsing these forums a lot looking for people in similar circumstances, first time posting. I’m curious if anyone can offer more input.

I burned Amex for $3200 in Ch 7 filed in 10/2019. Since then, I’ve rebuilt my score and I’m in a much better place. I’m really looking to get back in their good graces. I called this week to ask them about repayment, and they were very clear I’m under no obligation to do so. I know they’re legally required to say that. Even so, I’m interested in paying them back and getting off the blacklist. From what I’ve read on here, I’d still have to wait 5 years and 1 month to apply.

So I guess my questions are, does anyone have similar experience with paying back after Ch 7? Would you recommend it? And if so, how soon after were you able to get approved if at all? Thanks for any insight!

Re: Repaying American Express after Chapter 7

Plenty of people have done it. In most instances people were approved once pif and/or they hit the time restriction. Others didn't pay and we're willing to wait up to 10-20 years to get back in. Paying just shortens the time on the blacklist. But there's no guarantee. Depending on your past with them, they could still blacklist you for a bit longer. There have also been 2 instances I've read about on here about people being permanently blacklisted. It really just boils down to do you want to roll the dice to speed up the process and be out that money you're not legally obligated to pay.
