Hello all. Spouse is coming out of a CH13 this November. Their credit scores are currently in the mid 750's which astounds me. Stable employment making around 55K a year. This CH13 has been hell. She must of had the Trustee from hell. For some reason, and we still can't seem to find an answer, the Trustee let some creditors jump on board half way through the CH13. My spouse had to add an additional 1K a month to her payment just so she could get in done in the 60 month timeline. Anyways, enough of the sob story.
Looking for recommendation on having her rebuild her credit. What companies to maybe start with, etc. Thanks for any suggestions and appreciate the help!
@Anonymous, CapitalOne is well known for being friendly to those just fininshing bankruptcies, espeically Chapter 13s. The best advice would be to wait say, six weeks, check the credit reports from all three burearus, and then apply for a Quicksilver card (not QuicksilverOne). If Navy Federal is an option to join, that is another good starting place to pick up their nRewards secured credit card. Next stop on your shopping spree might be Discover for their secured card and PenFed say six months down the road for an unsecured card.
Done right, after a Chapter 13 you can easily land upwards of $15,000 in unsecured credit within the first year following the discharge. Good luck and keep us posted.
Chapter 13:
I categorically refuse to do AZEO!
Thanks!
I was going to have her get in touch with Navy Fed as well and inquire about a secured card there.
Congrats to the spouse on being almost done with the 13. I know the feeling as my last payment is due in September. Some recommendations I have would be Penfed, they will approve while in a 13 as I have both a credit card and a new car loan with them, Target, and I would also check prequals with Discover and AMEX once done as well.
