Still unsuccessful 2months post discharge getting a credit card

So far I've had the harder end of obtaining credit post chapter 7 discharge. After about 4 dealerships I finally was able to obtain car loan at not so great rates. Also, I havent been able to obtain a credit card at all. I did include Cap 1, First Premier, and Credit One all amounts under $500. Since the discharge, none of them will budge with me. Credit one is listing on my report as a charge off, stating that my debt was a charge off before I filed. I've also applied to Barclays, Victoria Sec, and even a secured CC withy bank all of which have denied me. At this point my inquiries are starting to bringing my scores down, so the only thing I can do is wait. My reports are showing 98% of everything IIB, except for Credit One, which is reading as a charge off (disputed this several times). I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do. Any suggestions.?

Sounds like you may need to start with a secured card that is BK friendly. After about 6 months of usage you should see some doors begin to open up.

No problem! Also look into getting a small secured loan with a bk friendly credit union. That way you have an open positive revolver and installment. That should make a huge difference in your success.

Re: Still unsuccessful 2months post discharge getting a credit card

This is very encouraging. I did open an account with a credit union recently. I will stop in to see what options are available for my situation. Thanks!

Make sure to ask all the questions you can before apping. Many CU's will help you out more than a big bank just saying, "apply to find out" haha

Re: Still unsuccessful 2months post discharge getting a credit card

A charge off before filing is a valid trade line and would not be updated to IIB and zero balance.

Your discharge will prevent any further collection attempts on that debt should it have been sold.

Re: Still unsuccessful 2months post discharge getting a credit card

Getting a Secured Sharing Savings Loan and Secured Credit Card with our CU was a great way to start after discharge. Just make sure they report to all three credit agencies. Best of luck to you.Smiley Happy

Are you sure about that? My understanding is that BK7 discharges and extinguishes ALL debt, with the exception of re-affirmed debt, tax debt and student load debt. Being a charge-off that has not gone to collections should not make a difference.
