For paid-off vehicles, KBB? NADA? Edmunds?
I looked up a few using "clean retail" value for NADA and "private party value" for KBB. It seems I fall a few hundred bucks short of what my state's exemptions will allow. Will trustee make me pay the difference or let it go since it is only a few hundred bucks and my sole source of transport?
I don't know what mine used. Perhaps its a trustee preference thing? I just gave my lawyer make, model, year and mileage and described condition of its junk and if the trustee wants it for scrap, I'd be happy to hand it over. It blow the engine on the day before I signed my papers to file. Sorry I couldn't be of help, just didn't want to leave you answerless.
Less than trade in value.
They auction it off which gets less than trade in plus fees on top.
Trustees can also set up payment plans for items you wish to keep that are not exempt.
GL!
DON'T WORK FOR CREDIT CARDS ... MAKE CREDIT CARDS WORK FOR YOU!
I don't forsee you have any issues over a few hundred dollars. When I did my filing, they took the average of KBB Retail and Trade-in value to determine my allowable vehicle asset. I was WELL under this amount since we only owned 1 vehicle without lien, but it's what I was told how they calculated it. Northern District of Oklahoma if that helps any.
Best of luck!
