Hello. I'm opening a new retail business and am interested in an Amex Gold biz card.
With just a little bit of preliminary reading it seems others have been holding personal cards from Amex for a bit before they can be accepted for a biz account. Is this a necessity or have any of you had success with a cold application to get into a biz card before?
I appreciate any help from those more experienced than I on the matter.
:EDIT:
It might help to know that I am pre-qualified for their Everyday, Blue, Gold and Platinum cards...for what it's worth.
I only had my personal Gold for about 2 weeks when I apped for the Amazon Prime Business card. Soft pull approved. I don't think it matters which way you get in the door, once your in, your in.

It is not necessary to have any prior relationship with AMEX to qualify for their biz cards. If you feel your profile would warrant an approval, you're fine to cold app any card you would like.
@rostrow416 Great information . . . Thanks for posting. I'm looking to build my business credit also. I received my first AmEx Blue Cash Preferred in March 2021 and I regret not applying for a business card and/or the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant within 30 days to save another hard pull. Live and learn!!!
I thought it is a soft pull when you apply for Amex Business Card. I did not think they do hard pull once you are part of Amex family. I could be wrong. Right now I have Amex Optima and I am not allowed to apply for any other Amex products. It will turn 12 months old in the next 2 months and then I am planning on apply for Amex Amazon Business Credit Card.

Subsequent cards after your initial approval should normally be SP approvals. There are still outlying instances where HP can occur, so expect it to likely be SP, but do not apply for it if you are not willing to take the HP if it happens.
I got in with Amex March 2021 with an Amex Gold (personal). After first statement cut, I applied for the Blue Business Plus. I was denied due to not having a long history with Amex. 30 days after denial, I apped again and was instantly approved. From what I gather, If you're preapproved for the personal cards, you would also be preapproved for the business version of the card. When I was denied, I was only preapproved for all the charge cards and cobranded cards but none of the core revolvers. During my 2nd app, I was preapproved for all of Amex cards.

While this is by no means a guarantee, I would agree that it is at the very least a very good indicator of approval odds.
@babygirl1256 When I apped for the Amazon Amex, my reports were frozed. I wasn't going to take a HP for it, and since the SUB ($100 Amazon gift card on approval) didn't involve any sort of spend, I went for it. There are plenty of cases where subsequent Amex cards are SP only, so if you just want to test the waters, its always a possibility.
