Send in my Social Security Card?! Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card recon

Hi All,

Recently applied for Wyndham Rewards Business Earner, almost exclusively for status match to Caesars Diamond/MGM Gold/Hyatt Explorist/etc. (see new status matching rules for Wyndham) Anyways, got a reviewing application message upon applying. Checked application status and was denied. I called and reconed and was actually successful!

However, I was told I need to send (fax or physical mail in) my Driver's License copy front and back, my Social Security Card copy front and back, and a utility bill. Is this normal? I really want these statuses, but I'm on the verge of just letting the denial happen because I'm so sketched out. I called (866) 408-4064 and was transferred to their security department at (866) 469-5977..which seemed to be managed offshore. Made me even more sketched.

Any advice/past experience with this? I don't really doubt its legit, I just don't want my identity stolen over a Casino rewards status. I don't trust them to shred my info! Thanks all.

Whereas these types of requests have traditionally been more common when applying for cards from credit unions, because of the recent explosion in fraudulent applications across all issuers this type of request has become more commonplace even from banks.

One thing to keep in mind is that FDIC and NCUA member institutions, as well as cybersecurity-centric organizations that have been authorized to provide services to them, have compliance requirements tied to data security and data access and must be able to positively demonstrate their compliance on a regular basis.   That being said, some people do consider these types of requests too intrusive for their personal comfort and you wouldn't be alone in refusing to provide it strictly on philosophical grounds.

So I do not have any personal experience with either this card or issuer [Mod cut: This type of link is not allowed.]

EDIT: My mistake, I added a link I shouldn't have. So I'll sum up the video, they do ask for those documents to be sent via mail or fax, it takes a long, long time to get a representative on the phone, the best bet is after midnight EST. And it takes a long time to get approved even being pro-active. For the person who applied on the video, it took them basically 4-6 weeks before being approved and having the card in hand. Keeps in mind that you need to be approved within 60 days before another HP.

Before my present credit journey i was requested by an MGM product to provide a copy of my ss card. The only time I was asked for a copy of a utility bill was when i applied for an unsecured personal loan, i forget wether it was prosper or lending club.

This is becoming more frquent with many card issuers due to identity thefts.  Also, you should check your info with the secondary bureaus such as LexisNexis, Sagestream, Clarity, Innvocus, Factor Trust, etc.  Many issuers are using them as a secondary source and if there is antyhing in those that is not the same as the primary they flag it.
