AA Executive CIti World Elite Application - Denied - UPDATE: 07/04 (APPROVED)

Just wanted to give an update.

As I have indicated 07/02 - I found that I got an BK7 EE on EX, and my score went up 40 pts to 786.

Today, I reapplied the CITI World Elite Executive AAdvantage. I got an instant approval with $30,500 SL. NICE turnout, but it gave me a very high APR 24.49%. I don't care since I selcome carry balance.

NEW DP:

INQ 3/12, 16/24

EX score on the app report: 786

New accounts: 2/12

Thanks.

DP:

BK7 - 10/2012. 7 more months till it's completely gone from my CR.

CIti was IIB back then.

UTIL less than 1%

HELOC 90%

Income $280k +

FICO Experian 748

I read that CIti might allow one in after 5 years of BK and if there's no inq for the last 6 months. I have tried to be very clean with my credit reports. No late payment at all for all of the 9+ years after BK.

They denied my app right away. Called recon line And I explained that I made a bit mistake 9 years ago but I have been very good with my credit usage. Asked for second tier recon. They said they would do a second look and they would let me know 2-3 days. A few minutes later, I got a text of denial. So quick?.

Anyway, I am wondering if they will be forgiving to let me back in AFTER the BK falls off in October 2022?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Well if I borrow a lot of money from you and never paid you back, how long would it take for you to be willing to loan me more?

Citi, Amex and Chase are no go if IIB for at least a decade, for some it can take multiple decades.

Re: AA Executive CIti World Elite Application - Denied

You are at the finish line. Just as an FYI, my Chapter 7 fell off last summer. July was my filing month and Experian dropped it off the CR in April. You should be able to phone TransUnion in August and ask them to remove it. They did mine. I also called Equifax and absolutely no early removal, they took mine off on June 1 so your EQ should come September.

Now, on to Citi. I also burned Citi, I was able to wiggle back in the ecosystem by getting the Costco Visa. I applied a few times before and denied because of past relationship and BK on my report. After speaking to a very nice older lady one morning she said "you look like you have done well, I'm going to approve you with a $5,000 limit."  After the BK fell off I applied for the AA Exec and was declined for too many new accounts. Called recon and got a gentleman who was not the friendliest. After asking a few questions, he came back on the line and said I will approve you for $18,000.

it seems like Citi is very hit or miss on approving. I'm surprised they have been good to me. They have odd underwriting policies. Some people have been approved with a BK showing and not having to speak to recon. Others got back in with a BK after 4 years. I'm thoroughly convinced it's really the agent you speak with. I think Citi really gives them a lot of decision power. Wishing you the best
