Re: AMEX -now or wait to request CLI

181 days from the date the card was approved; that's the norm for most people although a few are able to get CLI at the 60 day mark.  Jumping the gun and applying for a CLI early does not restart the clock.  You will eventually get a letter in the mail stated why your CLI was not approved.  If you call they will most likely just tell you that you applied too early.

I think I'll just wait for the letter and skip the call.  Thanks for the great info.  This is such a great place to get information from knowledgeable people.  Love it!

My advice would have been to wait, but I guess I'm too late.  Assuming your FICO scores are correct and given you starting credit line, it would appear that you were a marginal approval in the first place.

I actually wasn't even going to ask for one, now I wish I had not.  So wait another 181 days or a total of 181 days from opening the account.  Fico's are currently  EQ 707 , TU  689,  EX  678.  We were also probably marginal approval because of a previous BK with them 21 years ago (for about $600 or less).  So I'm guessing they will want to watch how we handle credit for the next few months or even a year before they move....Thats's okay I'm OK in the garden and will just wait and apply in 6 months I guess when our scores are up a bit (hoping) and the UT is even lower like under 8.9% or at 1% or something.  It could also be because my Discover was removed from the CR due to Fraud the new card hasn't been added yet, so it looks odd.  I forgot about that, I really should have wait...oh well.  We are good for now, don't really need it but wanted just this one to be higher like the others.  If I can get all three up to 10K I'm good sitting there for a few years until we get our CR completely clean.

I included Amex in BK7 18 years ago and I'm still unable to get customer-initiated CLIs.  Each time I've tried I always immediately get an email to call (I never do), and a few days later I get a letter that my request is denied due to a "previous delinquent account" (or something to that effect).

That said, I've never been declined for a new card, and my BCP that was approved for a very modest $1k is now at $7500 from two auto-CLIs.  Also, I got an ED in January 2017 and it was instantly approved for $8k, so they have loosened up.  I've not tried for a CLI in over a year so there's a chance that's changed too... I just don't feel like 'poking' them right now - my cards are at very usable limits for me.  Smiley Wink

TL;DR... including Amex in a past BK might hold you back for CLIs.

Re: AMEX -now or wait to request CLI

That makes sense.  They probably want to watch and wait more than any other company might.  Good to know you did get at least 2 auto CLI though, so even if I can't get one by request, maybe at some point they will throw one our way. How long have you had the card?  I'm wondering how long it took for you to get from the 1K to the 8K?
