AMEX

Hey y'all!

I think I'm pretty much set with the credit cards that I'd ever need. However, one more that eventually I'd like to add is AMEX (any one of them).

However, I'd like to know what the requirements are and what I need to do (or need NOT to do) in order to get one.

Currently, I have about 6-7 charge-offs (one of them is paid), utlization at 24%, about 13 inquiries and AAoA is 2 years. The paid charge-off is due to fall of December 2015. All others are from December 2016 - May 2017. And no, I'm not going to throw more than $10K in debt away and struggle to do PFD with the creditors for the mistakes that I've done in the past. I'm good with the cards and the limits that I currently have and I have an excellent payment history for the past 3 years. Besides, these limits will go up.

I'm about to bring my utilization down to just a few percent (will do what people here suggest; have all the cards report with a $0 balance except for the one with the highest limit) and garden for at least a year.

Do you think that if I wait til January 2016 (after the paid charge-off falls off) I'd have a chance with AMEX (with all the other charge-offs) or I'd have to wait til May 2017?

Thank you.

Re: AMEX

You should try in January 2016 and let see what happened.

Re: AMEX

Hey dude, I think January 2016 sounds like a decent time to dip your toe into AMEX's pool too if you stay on the right track. Best of luck.

Re: AMEX

I would definitely wait if I were you. If the scores in your signature are up-to-date, then you're going to have a bit of a hard time getting in with AMEX - even if it is for just a charge card. I would let a few of those charge offs fall off your record and get your scores up before applying. Don't waste an inquiry if you don't have to!
