What was your credit profile like when you applied.

Fico 629, mostly student loans and 4cc's, less than 30% utilization.

I was approved for the BCE with a 699 EX score and one 60 day late on a student loan from 5 years ago. No credit cards except an AU on my husband's Freedom. SL of $8k.

I think others have gotten Amex's with negatives here.  I was afraid to app for others even with none.  They seem so stern when they say you cannot have any negatives items on your report!  Kinda scares you away.  Once you're in with them, they want to give you more cards and treat you very well.  I would try their pre qualify and if you're feeling brave, go for a cold app.  It depends on how bad you want the card.
