Sorry to hear that. Did they disclose the reason for the denial? Hopefully, you can apply again and get approved at a later date. Good luck!

What were the specific reasons cited for both denials?

Re: Amex platinum denial??

Your consumer credit report indicates your payment history has been unsatisfactory

The balances on your credit card accounts are high in relation to their credit limits, as reflected in your credit report.

Re: Amex platinum denial??

Did your scores jump that much because you brought down utilization?  If so, it should be updated on your next billing cycle.  Since you have to wait 30 days after denial, it may work out.  To check what Amex sees on their soft pulls, check your Fico score when logged into your account (not the My Credit Guide).

You should have received a letter from Amex after the first denial.  That letter includes the exact date of the soft pull that was used to make their decision.  You can infer from that date that Amex soft pulls your credit for account review on approximately the same date each month.

The FICO score shown in your online account is not used for underwriting decisions.  Typically the FICO score is updated on the first day of each monthly billing cycle.  The score used in underwriting is obtained via a soft pull that occurs independent of your FICO score update.  So its always a good idea to wait one month from the updated score in your online account to allow the score used by underwriting to "catch up."

You have 30 day late(s) on your credit report less than a year old.  Don't take it personally, but Amex is does not want to offer you a top tier card with a $500+ AF that requires PIF every month if you are late on minimum credit card payments.  Regardless of why it happened, you have to see their side here.

I would hold off for 6 months and try again.  Maybe 1 year is thier line in the sand.
