Re: App-Extravaganza!! Advice needed.

As a DP, my own experience was to have the same HP pulled from TU used for 2 x CLI requests on Day 1 and a successful Merrill+ app on day 3.

Re: App-Extravaganza!! Advice needed.

I have a Merrill+, BBR, and Cash Rewards.

My understanding is that BoA normally allows up to 4 cards and occasionally a 5th card is tolerated.

Good luck with your apps!

Nice to know they'll use a single pull, whether it's EX or TU. Good luck OP!

Re: App-Extravaganza!! Advice needed.

Thanks for the background info SlightyRemoved!    After some rocky times in the Great Recession 07-08 (fico probably dropped off the scale!), I got a Direct Rewards Credit card with a $1400 starting limint and a Capital One with $300 starting limit.  Capital One bought Direct Rewards some years back, but I didn't get a CLI until last August 2016 (new limit $4400). It was an auto-increase.    I hit the Cap 1 CLI request button online yesterday and got the "we'll contact you in 10 days with our decsion" message.  I hope that doesn't mean its denied!   I'm thinking of requesting on the Cap 1 $300 card too anyway, or asking for an upgrade to another card.

I called Barclays today and tried the "interest rate reduction" trick (ask for rate reduction and they often give you a CLI).  I got a 1% rate reduction but no CLI Smiley Sad

O for 2, but I will keep trying the strategies.  From the results people post, it looks like it pays off if you stick with it.

Re: App-Extravaganza!! Advice needed.

OP: Recent experience.  Cap 1 will indeed combine both of your cards and IIRC, there's a way you can do that on your own in your online account, but beware...they will count that as a CLI and it'll be another 6 months before you'll be able to request another CLI from them.  I learned this the hard way.  BOL 2 U.

Re: App-Extravaganza!! Advice needed.

Thanks Airtroop!  I was on the fence about combining, but I decided to go for the CLI on each card first (both gave me the 10 day review message).  Sounds like I should try to upgrade my Cap 1 $300 rather than combining...but I'll see what happens with the CLIs first.

Re: App-Extravaganza!! Advice needed.

Today was a good day.... I went online this morning and clicked on the blue "request a credit limit increase" text.  I asked for $20k and instantly got my limit raised from $7500 to $15k!!!    Next I tried to apply for Merril+ card over the phone, but the BofA rep said it was not available (not sure if he knew what he was talking about). He said the cards he had were better after checking with his supervisor so I went with it.  The rep said he had two cards I qualified for and I App'd for both over the phone...and was approved for $11k and $15k  (a cash rewards card and a travel card) woo hoo!  Just as I was hanging up he said another card popped up on his screen and would I like to apply... I did...but it came back needing a manual reveiw.  The rep placed me on hold and called the credit department.  I then spoke to a "credit specialist" who said they were denying it because they felt they extended enough today and that I should call back after a some time, charges, and payments had gone through.  $33,500 in credit in with a click and a call...not bad!  Thanks so much for all the advice guys!   Especially Gmood1!

About an hour later I got a call from an 800 number which turned ou to be Capital One.  Turns out I had a fraud alert on my report so they couldn't process my CLI without talking to me on the phone.  They verified my identiy and told me I had been approved for $2k CLI on my Capital One.  I asked about my other Cap 1 and they said it was increased from $300 to $500 (ha ha).  Wondering if I should close, consolidate, or convert that smaller card???

All in all a great day.  Wondering if I should continue applying to some other cards or wait?   I believe I only had one HP on TU from BofA for all of the CLIs.   Wondering if waiting until the new cards with higher limits show up will improve my odds of getting higher limits on my next apps?

This credit plan is definitely off to a great start.  Thanks again everyone!
