I applied for the American Express green card on 1/16/2015. Instead of approving me immediately it said the application was "in progress". I knew that I would not get approved immediately because I have a fraud alert on my credit report where I have to call in and answer security questions first. When I applied for the green I didn't realize that it has a foreign transaction fee, which is not a good thing for me. I will be traveling to Singapore and Indonesia this summer as well as studying abroad during the summer of 2017. I have to call tomorrow anyways to bypass the security alert (they were closed today for MLK, gahhh the wait), so could I just ask the representative to swap it to the gold since the application hasn't been approved yet? My stats are in my signature, but my only concern is my income for the gold. I make less than 30k per year (about 27k), so could I still be approved for it? I just turned 18 years old and I'm a senior in high school while doing college classes so I also put that I am a student. My college is fully paid for while I am in high school so maybe I should have included that in my income... By the way, don't waste your time telling me I'm too young for credit, I am VERY responsible
. Also, I have 3 hard inquiries on my credit report (1 or 2 are within last 6 months), but they can't see the Barclay that I have opened up this weekend yet because the card hasn't arrived so I technically haven't "opened" it. They also can't see the hard pull from the barclay because barclay only pulled my TU while Amex only pulled my experian. My credit utilization rate is less than 1%. Thanks in advance.
*Sorry for any grammar errors, I'm typing on my phone*
My income is a bit lower than yours, and I have a PRG, so don't worry about that. ![]()
About your Barclay card, the account is open as of the moment you get approved; doesn't matter if you have card in hand/activated it yet. Also, Barclays reports extremely fast (like within a couple of days of approval) to all 3 bureaus, so yes Amex could potentially see that you have that card.
But anyway, as to your main question, unfortunately you won't be able to change it until after 13 statements (as per the CARD act); therefore they're most likely going to ask you to submit a new application for the PRG.
Alright thanks. My mistake, I just updated all 3 of my credit reports today to check, and it has not yet. All the cards I've gotten before have never reported before I received the card, that is why I made that inference.
By the way, I'm new here. How do you put your credit cards in your signature?

You will not be able to add to signature until after a certain number of post. Go to smorgosbord on how to add to signature and it will lead you to it. but only after a certain number of post. As far as changing. you could wait 13 months and upgrade or just cancel and apply again in 30 days. eitherway it will be fine. I am not sure the green has a FTF. but in any case i would use a regular credit card over Amex Charge as the Mr points imo are just not that good.
Thanks!
Sadly the amex green has a 2.7% FTF after conversion to US dollars. The gold will probably be my best bet for using overseas because it'll be the only true points card I have if I'm approved. I don't use the two miles cards that I'm an AU on because it's my moms and she would just take the points, lol. I was scared to apply for a miles card like the sapphire, delta, aairlines, etc because of the recent amount of accounts open and limited length of history. I'll ask the rep tomorrow if I cancel and apply for the gold if she thinks I'll get approved because I don't want to waste another inquiry, especially since I'll be applying for student loans this summer ![]()

Will probably report within the next couple of days since it's the weekend and today is a federal holiday. And I completely understand your inference; most cards do indeed take a month or two to report, but Barclays is the exception.
As another poster stated, you will need to move up in rank a bit (with some posting and viewing of posts) before you can do it, but here's the link with the instructions. ![]()
Hey guys are you sure he has to wait 13 months to upgrade the green to a gold or PRG? I was approved for my PRG just before Thanksgiving and for the past month it's been showing me when logged in and I go to the all cards page an option to upgrade the PRG to a Platinum and keep the same account number and everything. Just last week I was approved for the Hilton HHonors no fee card and that also offers the same option to upgrade to the Surpass and even offers a 50k bonus on 3k spend again with keeping the same account number and everything. The Surpass upgrade almost has me thinking I'd do it once my 60k points post for the HHonors card if I could also get 50k out of upgrading.
I have also read that it is 13 months on a lot of other posts, but don't take my word for it because I'm a newbie. I just wasn't sure if I had to wait the 13 months since the card wasn't approved yet. I will update ya'll in the morning on what the rep says. ![]()
