I was on a Southwest flight (I fly them almost exclusively for most trips) and saw that they had a 50,000 point SUB special that seems to only available when you're using their inflight WiFi system. Typical SUB is 40,000.
While on the flight, I checked to see if data points were compatible with my scores and it seemed like plenty of people were in my range and getting an approval. Can anyone speak to if these cards are less strict compared to the core Chase cards (F, FU, CSP, CSR)?
I recently applied for a Capital One Savor, which I'm still waiting to hear back from but thought the 10,000 SUB addition was worth the risk given I fit their general profile for approvals. Submitted an application (the Southwest card would be 3/24 if the Cap One Savor comes through) and received the following: "We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We'll let you know our decision as soon as possible." Called the check application status number and it still says 30 days, which from all my research on other posts means that it's sitting unprocessed.
Update: I checked in today after 2 days stuck at the 30 days message and this evening the automatic message responded that I had been approved for the Chase Southwest Priority with a SL of $9,000!
Are the two cards in your lineup the only ones you have? Also, any other current Chase cards?
Yes those are the only two I have. No chase cards.
Chase likes to see 1 year of credit history.
Good luck
I wanted to share some really interesting insights I received from a verification specialist at Chase!!
Last week, I applied for the Chase Southwest Priority Card. E-mail response said, "We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We'll let you know our decision as soon as possible." Over the past few days, I've been regularly checking their application status hotline and for 4 days received the 30 day wait message (usually for unprocessed applications).
Today I checked again and it changed to 7-10 days. Given most of the data points on our forum, I was bummed out and was bracing for a denial. I hit "0" to speak with a CR. Very nice lady confirmed my application and said that unfortunately I had been declined and would receive a letter in 7-10 days and that a code/reason would be available in the letter for me to call reconsideration. Obviously I'm impatient and decided to try for an immediate reconsideration.
I called back after that call and spoke to another very nice CR and said I had called about a reconsideration. I was transferred to the verification department (things looking more optimistic!) and they went over my details of application including a text message verification and the regular DOB, social security number, address, etc. At the end she said that she had verified my identity and that my application would move forward for approval.
WAIT - I THOUGHT I WAS NOT APPROVED??!
So, I asked this verification specialist if I could speak to an analyst to get immediate approval. She said my application was with the "back end" analysts who only review applications post verification in the order received. I asked why I had been given information that I was declined and she made a critical distinction that is important to consider when applying to Chase:
She said that the very first CR I spoke to can only see if I was approved and NOT if I had been *denied* approval. So for that reason, the first CR thought I had been declined but didn't think to pass me on for verification. This clarifies that I had just not been approved but that the 7-10 letter in the mail was for verification and not for a denial. It seems that only the Verification/Fraud Dept. can see if there is a rejected application or if it's just pending more information. In my case, I just needed to verify my address in particular because I had moved in the last 2 months. My application has gone back to the 30 day waiting message since it's officially awaiting review again.
Moral of the story: you should really try to talk to verification when calling the back door number and they can tell you if you need to be verified or if you've been denied.
Thank you for this!! Such an effort to give them a call and understand what happened. Kudos also to that CSR who explained it to you. Congrats on the approval!!

It's a maze with all of the numbers but I have to say they were all extremely friendly!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed - as most say, if they go to the trouble of verifying you, they probably intend to approve your application but it's never 100% sure!

I think the additional point of this story is to let the process play itself without too much interference from consumer.
Wow hopefully after all this it’s an approval. Good luck!
