Hey guys, first post on the forums.
I'm a newbie on all things credit to be completely honest and I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
I wanted to apply for a Chase Freedom card, but I don't think I have any credit.
For some info I've been working at this employer for 1 year and 3 months, I've had Chase as my bank/Chase debit card for 1 year and 2 months, and I'm currently on a lease for an apartment-- that of which ends in October (two months) and I've paid my bills on time.
I really want the chase freedom card, but I'm not sure if I'll be approved because of my lack of credit?
Can you guys give this newbie any advice?
Welcome to the forum
Have you bought any cars or had any student loans..anything?
In the event you haven't it would be hard to be approved for any card with no scores or a file
Welcome to MyFico. Before proceeding, do you have any scores now as in FICO scores for each bureau? If you don't then I suggest you get a secured card fro 6 months (BOA or CAP 1) before going for Chase.
The 6 months is enough for you to generate a score and also establish good payment history.
Going to plug creditkarma.com to take a peek at some of your credit from TU and EX. You can always run a freecredit report too, if you have not done so in past year. Just so you know my credit score was 721 through credit karma and had no issues. My fico score on my Discover says 685.
Welcome! I suggest checking to see if you are prequalified on their main web site; they are pretty solid. If you get a 7-10 message then it usually means they want to get proof of ID/income/social. If the prewual doesn't show up then getting a BOA partially secured card may be good option. Chase didn't mind I had thin file. In fact, the only card I had on my file was the partially secured 99/500 card on my file and I was approved for the Freedom for decent limit.
Make sure you check your scores to see how you stand! Credkit Karma would not generate a score for me at all becuase I had thin file. I logged on two months later when the BOA reported and voila! All of the sudden there was my entire credity history for eons ago.
