Called Chase about adding an authorized user, was told that they do a credit pull. She invited me to call back and talk to a credit bureau analyst about it more, but I'm not sure what they'll be able to tell me.
If I'm the one responsible for the account, not sure why my AU's credit is important. But anyway... any ideas on what kind of creditworthiness they'd require? Wanting to add to my Chase Freedom card.

Josh, please update with any new info you gather from the credit analyst. Thanks.

You can add an AU through private message. There is no credit pull to do so.
Correct. No matter how you add them, there is no HP. Good reminder to always be cautious about what any front line CSR tells you. This is true for any company but with CC issuers, many of them are not familiar with credit overall (as in may not know difference between SP and HP) and often are completely unfamiliar with their own company's policies.

Is it possible for someone who is an authorized user to get a preapproval for their own credit card? Not sure since technically the card isn’t the AU’s.
Sure it's possible but the preapproval won't show up on the cardholder's account page. The AU would need to check Chases's external link for preapprovals.

I've added my DW onto my chase freedom and they did not do a credit pull. Maybe that analyst was mistaken I was able to add her using the chase website.
Ditto. Did not pull DW's credit when I added her as AU not did they pull mine months later when she added me to her new Chase card.
